Polyaniline-supported tungsten-catalyzed oxidative deoximation reaction with high catalyst turnover number

Wen Li et al.

Summary: Polyaniline-supported tungsten (W@PANI) is an efficient catalyst for the oxidative deoximation reaction, which is crucial in the pharmaceutical industry. The method utilizes a minimal amount of catalytic tungsten (0.048 mol% vs. oxime substrates), resulting in high turnover numbers (TONs) of the catalyst (ca. 10(3) mol/mol) and low metal residues in the product (<0.1 ppm). It is applicable for various substrates, including heterocycles, and has been successfully scaled up for kilogram production.

Direct Oxidative Cyanation of Alcohol to Nitrile over CoOx/MnO2 with Aqueous Ammonia

Weitao Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a new approach for the cyanide-free synthesis of organic nitriles through highly direct oxidative cyanation of alcohols. By using a CoOx/MnO2 catalyst under aqueous ammonia conditions, benzyl alcohol was successfully converted to benzonitrile with high yield and selectivity. Kinetic studies revealed that the oxidation of benzyl alcohol was the rate-determining step in the consecutive reactions. The catalytic system also demonstrated its applicability to various types of alcohol substrates, showcasing a sustainable synthesis strategy.

An ATP-Cu(ii) catalyst efficiently catalyzes enantioselective Michael reactions in water

Xingchen Dong et al.

Summary: In this study, a single nucleotide-based catalyst (ATP·Cu2+) was successfully constructed and demonstrated to catalyze enantioselective Michael reactions in aqueous media with high reactivities and good enantioselectivities up to 83% ee. The enantioselective catalytic performances of ATP·Cu2+ originate from specific binding between ATP and Cu2+ ions that exhibit both pH-dependent and temperature-dependent behaviors. The ATP·Cu2+ catalyst has been successfully applied to a wide spectrum of enone substrates and carbon nucleophiles.

Aldehyde-catalyzed epoxidation of unactivated alkenes with aqueous hydrogen peroxide

Ierasia Triandafillidi et al.

Summary: The organocatalytic epoxidation of unactivated alkenes using aqueous hydrogen peroxide provides essential products and intermediates in a sustainable manner. A specific atropisomeric two-axis aldehyde was identified for high-yielding epoxidations of cyclic and acyclic alkenes, resulting in high catalytic efficiencies due to the proximity of the aldehyde and backbone residues. Mechanistic studies suggest a non-radical alkene oxidation by an aldehyde-derived dioxirane intermediate generated from hydrogen peroxide through the Payne and Criegee intermediates.
