Fundamental constraints of lithologically-controlled fault networks on gas migration and accumulation for fractured carbonates in the western Sichuan Basin, China

Lin Zhang et al.

Summary: The study successfully mapped the fault system within a carbonate reservoir in the western Sichuan Basin using 3D seismic surveys, revealing primary fault networks and secondary conjugate fault sets characteristics. This has significant implications for the evaluation of carbonate reservoirs in the area and understanding of subsurface fluid migration.

Investigating microscopic seepage characteristics and fracture effectiveness of tight sandstones: a digital core approach

Jing Li et al.

Summary: Microscopic seepage characteristics in tight sandstone reservoirs were evaluated using a digital core approach integrating microscopic seepage simulation and CT scanning. The results showed incomplete development of fractures and poor connectivity between micro-cracks in the investigated tight sandstone, with the proposed method providing a way to easily obtain directional permeability. This study provides important information for improving exploration and development of tight sandstone reservoirs.

Characteristics of Natural Fractures in an Ultradeep Marine Carbonate Gas Reservoir and Their Impact on the Reservoir: A Case Study of the Maokou Formation of the JLS Structure in the Sichuan Basin, China

Hu Li et al.

Summary: The primary gas layer in the Maokou Formation of the JLS structure in the Sichuan Basin is a typical pore-fracture carbonate gas reservoir, where natural fractures play a crucial role in improving reservoir physical properties. The fractures are predominantly tectonic in origin and have positive effects on the gas reservoirs' physical properties.
