Evaluating the environmental and economic impact of mining for post-mined land restoration and land-use: A review

Adator Stephanie Worlanyo et al.

Summary: Mining has been a significant driver of economic development, but it also has negative impacts on the environment and society. Reclamation plays a crucial role in mitigating the negative effects of mining and restoring soil productivity, stimulating microbial growth, and facilitating early ecological succession. Proper planning and analysis are essential before embarking on post-mining rehabilitation to ensure sustainable land use.

Influence of different tree species on autotrophic and heterotrophic soil respiration in a mined area under reclamation

Fernanda D. A. Valente et al.

Summary: The study found that there was no significant change in soil CO2 efflux among different tree species, but heterotrophic soil respiration contributed to 64% of total CO2 efflux and was associated with litter decomposition. Increases in soil moisture had the most influence on CO2 efflux.
