Human Blood Lipoprotein Predictions from 1H NMR Spectra: Protocol, Model Performances, and Cage of Covariance

Bekzod Khakimov et al.

Summary: Lipoprotein subfractions are important biomarkers for early cardiovascular disease diagnosis. This study developed partial least-squares regression models using H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and ultracentrifugation measurements of lipoproteins to predict lipoprotein concentrations accurately. The models were tested on a separate cohort with high matching rates, and an open software tool was created for predicting lipoprotein concentrations from H-1 NMR spectral recordings.

Amino Acids and Lipids Associated with Long-Term and Short-Term Red Meat Consumption in the Chinese Population: An Untargeted Metabolomics Study

Fangxu Guan et al.

Summary: This study identified potential biomarkers of red meat consumption in the Chinese population through metabolome analysis and evaluated their predictive ability for chronic diseases. The identified metabolites mainly involve amino acids, urea cycle, and fatty acid metabolism, providing new evidence for red meat biomarkers.

Validation of a Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Method for the Measurement of the Redox State Metabolic Ratios Lactate/Pyruvate and β-Hydroxybutyrate/Acetoacetate in Biological Samples

Robin Wijngaard et al.

Summary: The validated gas-chromatography mass spectrometry method provides a reliable and sensitive approach for simultaneous determination of lactate/pyruvate and beta-hydroxybutyrate/acetoacetate metabolites in plasma and liver tissue, showing good sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility. This method may be useful for evaluating in vivo redox states.

Effect of Animal Age at Slaughter on the Muscle Fibres of Longissimus thoracis and Meat Quality of Fresh Loin from Iberian x Duroc Crossbred Pig under Two Production Systems

Alberto Ortiz et al.

Summary: This study assesses the impact of different production systems and slaughter ages on the muscle fibers and meat quality of fresh loins from Iberian pigs. It was found that older animals in the Montanera system had larger muscle fibers, while the intensive system had differences in fiber types and sizes. The age at slaughter affected the quality traits of fresh loins, with Montanera fresh loins from older animals showing higher redness values.

The Sources, Synthesis and Biological Actions of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids in Red Meat: An Overview

Eric N. Ponnampalam et al.

Summary: Maximizing available resources for animal production, food security, and human-animal wellbeing is crucial for an economically viable and sustainable future. Consumption of n-3 PUFA can improve human health, while high levels of n-6 PUFA consumption may have negative effects. Current high consumption of n-6 PUFA by humans could be improved by increasing intake of n-3 PUFA, which could also benefit livestock health.

Integrated spectral and textural features of hyperspectral imaging for prediction and visualization of stearic acid content in lamb meat

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a rapid and nondestructive method to determine the distribution and content of stearic acid in lamb meat by integrating spectral and textural data, achieving good prediction results through feature extraction and modeling techniques. The effectiveness and feasibility of the method were confirmed through prediction models and experimental validation.
