Screening and Referral for Social Determinants of Health: Maternity Patient and Health Care Team Perspectives

Summary: This study aimed to explore patient and health care team perspectives on screening and referral for Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) in maternity care. The findings suggested that patients preferred integrated health assessments that included screening for SDoH, with a focus on transparency and confidentiality of data usage. Concerns were raised about potential biases and negative impacts of disclosing SDoH screening data, as well as the importance of respectful communication and respect for patient autonomy.
