Evaluation of slag/fly ash based geopolymer concrete with steel, polypropylene and polyamide fibers

Omer Faruk Kuranli et al.

Summary: Geopolymer composites play a vital role in reducing CO2 emissions and addressing climate change. This study focuses on producing fiber-reinforced geopolymer concrete as a sustainable alternative to traditional concrete. The addition of different fibers improves some strength properties, but not all. Polypropylene and steel fibers significantly enhance flexural toughness, while the improvement is limited in polyamide fiber reinforced geopolymer concrete.

The performance of fiber GGBS based alkali-activated concrete

Nancy Hammad et al.

Summary: The study investigated the performance of alkali-activated slag concrete (AAC) reinforced with structural polypropylene and steel fibers cured at ambient room temperature. The results showed an improvement in compressive and split tensile strength with the addition of fibers, exhibiting early high strength development. Additionally, a comparison between ACI 318 and ECP 203 provisions indicated a more conservative prediction by ACI 318.

Effect of recycled fine aggregates on alkali-activated slag concrete properties

Jinguang Huang et al.

Summary: Recycled fine aggregate (RFA) can be used as fine aggregate in alkali activated slag concrete (AASC) with superior early age compressive strength. However, in later age, the mechanical properties of AASC incorporating RFA are slightly lower than conventional AASC due to larger porosity in the concrete.

Hilal El-Hassan et al.

Summary: The study found that the optimal curing regime for alkali-activated blended concrete made with 0% and 25% fly ash was a combination of water and subsequent air curing, while that for mixes made with 50% fly ash was continuous water curing. The mix incorporating 25% fly ash exhibited superior properties compared to other mixtures.
