Deletion of the transcription factor Prox-1 specifically in the renal distal convoluted tubule causes hypomagnesemia via reduced expression of TRPM6 and NCC

Christina Schnoz et al.

Summary: Prox-1 is a transcription factor enriched in the DCT, which does not control DCT growth but contributes to the molecular control of DCT-dependent Mg2+ homeostasis in the adult kidney.

A Comprehensive Map of mRNAs and Their Isoforms across All 14 Renal Tubule Segments of Mouse

Lihe Chen et al.

Summary: This study used a full-length, small-sample RNA-seq protocol to profile transcriptomes for all 14 renal tubule segments microdissected from mouse kidneys, identifying over 34,000 transcripts and 3709 segment-specific transcripts. Gene-expression patterns of solute carriers, transcription factors, and G protein-coupled receptors along the renal tubule were found to be important for segment-specific function.

A five amino acids deletion in NKCC2 of C57BL/6 mice affects analysis of NKCC2 phosphorylation but does not impact kidney function

Sandra Moser et al.

Summary: Our study reveals a strain-specific deletion mutation in the amino acid sequence of mouse NKCC2 that affects the detection of NKCC2 phosphorylation by previously developed antibodies. The newly developed pT96 NKCC2 antibody can reliably detect pNKCC2 in both mouse strains without cross-reactivity with phosphorylated NCC, providing a solution to this technical issue.

Renal cell markers: lighthouses for managing renal diseases

Shivangi Agarwal et al.

Summary: The kidneys, responsible for maintaining body homeostasis, exhibit complexity in function and structure that require diverse cell types and precise cell markers for identification. Recent advancements in labeling and imaging techniques have allowed for efficient in vivo cell identification, although discrepancies in cell type-specific markers exist among different studies. There is a need for more precise definition of cell markers to ensure accurate interpretation of data.
