Au and Pt Remain Unoxidized on a CeO2-Based Catalyst during the Water-Gas Shift Reaction

Tomas R. Reina et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated using in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy that both Au and Pt remain unoxidized during the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, with significant differences in their dynamics under WGS atmospheres. While Pt undergoes restructuring into metallic particles, Au nanoparticles experience particle splitting and agglomeration processes, maintaining a zero oxidation state throughout the reaction.

Reversible dehydrogenation and rehydrogenation of cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane by single-site platinum catalyst

Luning Chen et al.

Summary: Developing highly efficient and reversible hydrogenation-dehydrogenation catalysts is of great importance for hydrogen storage technologies. The authors have developed a highly efficient and reversible single-site platinum catalyst that exhibits excellent catalytic performance in the hydrogenation-dehydrogenation reactions of large molecules such as cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane.

Fine-tuned local coordination environment of Pt single atoms on ceria controls catalytic reactivity

Wei Tan et al.

Summary: Constructing single atom catalysts with fine-tuned coordination environments can lead to satisfactory catalytic performance. By controlling the calcination temperature, CeO2 supported Pt single atom catalysts with precisely controlled coordination environments were successfully synthesized. The different Pt-CeO2 coordination environments have an impact on reactant adsorption/activation and product desorption, thus resulting in different catalytic performance.

Appropriate aggregation is needed for highly active Pt/Al2O3 to enable hydrogenation of chlorinated nitrobenzene

Rongtian Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that Pt particles could be obtained on a non-reducible support by weakening the interaction between the metal and support using oleic acid. The turnover frequency for catalyzing the hydrogenation of chlorinated nitrobenzene was three orders of magnitude higher than that of atomic platinum species.

Highly efficient Pt catalyst on newly designed CeO2-ZrO2-Al2O3 support for catalytic removal of pollutants from vehicle exhaust

Wei Tan et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the improvement of Pt-CeO2 catalysts by designing new ceria-based supports. Through a unique T-IWI method, a Pt single site catalyst with excellent thermal stability was synthesized on a CZA-T support. The catalyst showed higher oxidation activity and Oxygen storage capacity (OSC) compared to traditional Pt catalysts on regular CeO2/Al2O3 and one-step prepared CeZrOx/Al2O3 supports. The higher Pt dispersion and stronger Pt-O-Ce interaction on the CZA-T support played a vital role in the CO oxidation performance and OSC of the catalyst.

Metal-Support Interactions and C1 Chemistry: Transforming Pt-CeO2 into a Highly Active and Stable Catalyst for the Conversion of Carbon Dioxide and Methane

Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that Pt/CeO2 systems can effectively capture CO2 and CH4 at room temperature and serve as stable catalysts for the MDR process at 500 degrees Celsius. The Pt-CeO2 interface not only facilitates methane dissociation but also directly participates in the adsorption and dissociation of CO2, enabling the MDR catalytic cycle. The presence of elements with different chemical natures at the metaloxide interface allows for truly cooperative interactions in activating C-O and C-H bonds.

A Nonoxide Catalyst System Study: Alkali Metal-Promoted Pt/AC Catalyst for Formaldehyde Oxidation at Ambient Temperature

Chunying Wang et al.

Summary: Metal oxides are commonly used as supports in noble metal-based catalysts for formaldehyde oxidation, but this study demonstrates the successful application of activated carbon, a nonoxide support, for Pt catalysts in HCHO oxidation. The addition of alkali metal Na enhances the stability of Pt species, increases Pt dispersion, and improves the activation of chemisorbed oxygen and water, leading to direct conversion of HCHO to CO2 and H2O on the Na-Pt/AC-R catalyst. This research extends the promotional effect of alkali metals on supported Pt catalysts to a nonoxide carrier system.

Unraveling the Intermediate Reaction Complexes and Critical Role of Support-Derived Oxygen Atoms in CO Oxidation on Single-Atom Pt/CeO2

Yubing Lu et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Pt single-atom catalysts are important for automobile emission control and understanding catalyst mechanisms. In CO oxidation studies, Pt-1 complexes exhibit different states during reaction cycles, with Pt(O)(4) as the dominant form and Pt(CO)(O)(3) as a minority complex. The presence of labile oxygen adatoms from the CeO2 surface plays a crucial role in the regeneration of Pt complexes during the reaction.
