Kerr Enhanced Backaction Cooling in Magnetomechanics

D. Zoepfl et al.

Summary: Optomechanics is a powerful platform for testing fundamental physics and sensing applications, where photons directly interact with mechanical objects. However, efficient cooling of low frequency mechanical oscillators is challenging due to the limitation of commonly used methods. In this study, we demonstrate a novel approach using an intrinsically nonlinear cavity to cool low frequency mechanical oscillators, achieving significantly improved performance compared to linear systems. This approach enables efficient cooling of a wider range of optomechanical systems, providing new opportunities for fundamental tests and sensing.

Dynamical backaction evading magnomechanics

C. A. Potts et al.

Summary: We demonstrate a triple-resonance cavity magnomechanical measurement that fully evades dynamical backaction effects. Through careful engineering, the magnomechanical scattering rate into the hybrid magnon-photon modes can be precisely matched, eliminating dynamical backaction damping. Backaction evasion is confirmed via the measurement of a drive-power-independent mechanical linewidth.

Mechanical Bistability in Kerr-modified Cavity Magnomechanics

Rui-Chang Shen et al.

Summary: Bistable mechanical vibration is observed in a cavity magnomechanical system, which combines microwave cavity mode, magnon mode, and mechanical vibration mode. This system exhibits changes in mechanical frequency and linewidth under a strong microwave drive field due to the activation of three different nonlinearities simultaneously. Among them, the magnon-phonon cross-Kerr nonlinearity is predicted and measured for the first time in magnomechanics. The study also shows the strong influence of Kerr-type nonlinearities on traditional cavity magnomechanics and provides a unique platform for studying various nonlinear effects in a single experiment.

Cavity magnonics

Babak Zare Rameshti et al.

Summary: Cavity magnonics explores the interaction between magnons and confined electromagnetic fields, offering strong magnon-photon coupling and nonlinear behavior in microwave cavities. This field has the potential to be integrated into future quantum technologies. Magnetic optical resonators enhance the interaction between magnons and light, enabling magnon cooling and heating. The coupling between a magnon mode and a superconducting qubit in a microwave cavity allows for measurements in the single magnon limit.

Entangling the vibrational modes of two massive ferromagnetic spheres using cavity magnomechanics

Jie Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a scheme is proposed to entangle the vibrational phonon modes of two massive ferromagnetic spheres in a dual-cavity magnomechanical system. By directly driving the magnon mode with a red-detuned microwave field, a cavity-magnon-phonon state-swap interaction can be realized, leading to the remote entanglement of the two ferromagnetic spheres. This work demonstrates that cavity magnomechanical systems enable the preparation of quantum entangled states at a larger scale than currently possible with other schemes.

Parity-symmetry-breaking quantum phase transition via parametric drive in a cavity magnonic system

Guo-Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: We studied the parity-symmetry-breaking quantum phase transition in a cavity magnonic system driven by a parametric field, which can exhibit a rich phase diagram including parity-symmetric, parity-symmetry-broken, and bistable phases with appropriate parameters. Beyond a critical threshold of drive strength, the system undergoes a first- or second-order nonequilibrium QPT from the parity-symmetric phase with microscopic excitations to the parity-symmetrybroken phase with macroscopic excitations, depending on the system parameters. Our work offers an alternative way to engineer the QPT in a hybrid quantum system containing a spin ensemble in ferri- or ferromagnetic materials with strong exchange interactions.

Single-quadrature quantum magnetometry in cavity electromagnonics

M. S. Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: A scheme for an ultrasensitive magnetometer in cavity quantum electromagnonics has been proposed, which reduces noise in magnetic field measurements below the standard quantum limit by driving magnonic and microwave modes with external classical fields and controlling system parameters. Beyond the rotating wave approximation, the added noise is suppressed and cavity response to the input signal is amplified for precise magnetic field measurements. The theoretical sensitivity of the proposed magnetic amplifier-sensor is competitive with current state-of-the-art magnetometers like SQUIDs and atomic magnetometers, offering advantages such as high sensitivity at room temperature, wide frequency range sensing up to MHz, and signal-response amplification.
