Testing in vitro tools for the prediction of cholestatic liver injury induced by non-pharmaceutical chemicals

Eva Gijbels et al.

Summary: The study aimed to test the applicability of tools for predicting drug-induced liver injury on non-pharmaceutical compounds with cholestatic potential. The results showed cholestatic liability of sunset yellow, tartrazine, and triclosan, with tartrazine inducing transcriptional changes resembling those of cholestatic drugs. Additionally, unique gene modulation by tartrazine may serve as potential novel biomarkers for chemical-induced cholestatic liver injury.
