High-surface-area activated carbon from pine cones for semi-industrial spray deposition of supercapacitor electrodes

Andreas Nordenstrom et al.

Summary: Pine cones can be used to prepare activated carbons with a high surface area exceeding 3000 m^2 g^(-1). The activated carbon derived from pine cones has similar properties to reduced graphene oxide. Pine cone derived activated carbon can be used in the spray deposition of electrodes.

Graphite-type activated carbon from coconut shell: a natural source for eco-friendly non-volatile storage devices

Nilanka M. Keppetipola et al.

Summary: Activated carbon derived from coconut shells has been used as an active material for supercapacitor electrodes due to its environmentally friendly nature and high surface area. The activated carbon exhibited a graphitic phase, high surface area, and large pore volume, leading to excellent energy storage properties in supercapacitors. Notably, the activated carbon electrodes showed a specific capacitance of 132.3 F g(-1) with a maximum BET surface area of 1998 m(2) g(-1) in aqueous electrolyte, demonstrating great potential for energy storage applications.
