Aryl glyoxal: a prime synthetic equivalent for multicomponent reactions in the designing of oxygen heterocycles (vol 13, pg 11652, 2023)

Summary: In this study, we present a simple and efficient method for the preparation of novel thioether-linked coumarin-fused furans through a one-pot three-component reaction of arylglyoxal, 4-hydroxycoumarin, and various aromatic thiols in the presence of Sc(OTf)3 as a catalyst. This method is also applicable to cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyls and provides good to excellent yields of products with multiple pharmaceutically important motifs.
