A General Concurrent Template Strategy for Ordered Mesoporous Intermetallic Nanoparticles with Controllable Catalytic Performance

Hao Lv et al.

Summary: We report a general concurrent template strategy for the precise synthesis of mesoporous Pt-/Pd-based intermetallic nanoparticles with desired morphology and ordered mesostructure. This strategy provides a powerful method for the preparation of ordered mesoporous intermetallic nanocrystals suitable for selective catalysis and fuel cell electrocatalysis.

Porous Nanoarchitectures of Nonprecious Metal Borides: From Controlled Synthesis to Heterogeneous Catalyst Applications

Yunqing Kang et al.

Summary: Porous nonprecious metal-based nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention in heterogeneous catalysis due to their low cost, high surface area, efficient mass/electron transfer, tunable pore structure, and unique physicochemical properties. The phase and compositions of these materials play a critical role in their performance. This review summarizes the synthesis methods of porous nonprecious metal-based materials, explores the incorporation of boron (B) into metals, and discusses the key roles of B in related catalytic applications. Further research and development are needed to fully exploit the potential of porous nonprecious metal-based materials in heterogeneous catalysis and beyond.

Soft Template-Based Synthesis of Mesoporous Phosphorus- and Boron-Codoped NiFe-Based Alloys for Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Yunqing Kang et al.

Summary: In this study, well-defined P- and B-codoped NiFe alloy mesoporous nanospheres were synthesized, and they exhibited low overpotential in the oxygen evolution reaction. This work highlights the importance of designing mesoporous nonnoble metal structures and incorporating phosphorus for enhancing the intrinsic activity.

Intermetallic PtFe Electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction: Ordering Degree-Dependent Performance

Tian-Wei Song et al.

Summary: Platinum-based atomically ordered alloys show superior catalytic activity and durability in proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells. In this study, a series of PtFe catalysts with different ordering degrees but similar particle sizes were prepared. It was found that the ordering degree is positively correlated with the catalyst's activity and durability, which can be attributed to the compressive strain effect and thermodynamic stability of the intermetallic structure.

Meta-analysis of commercial Pt/C measurements for oxygen reduction reactions via data mining

Mingbo Ruan et al.

Summary: The rotating disk electrode technique is commonly used for screening and characterizing the performance of electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, the inconsistency in the measurement of commercial Pt/C makes it challenging to reliably compare the performance of different electrocatalysts from different labs. Through meta-analysis, the optimal testing conditions for the most repeatable ORR performance of commercial Pt/C were identified, providing general guidance for reliable measurement of its performance as a reference.

Subsize Pt-based intermetallic compound enables long-term cyclic mass activity for fuel-cell reduction

Han Cheng et al.

Summary: By breaking the size limitation in Pt alloy systems, subsize Pt-based intermetallic compounds can simultaneously optimize MA and durability. Furthermore, the subsize scale was found to enhance the stability of membrane electrodes, preventing catalyst poisoning by ionomers in humid fuel-cell conditions.

Direct Thermal Annealing Synthesis of Ordered Pt Alloy Nanoparticles Coated with a Thin N-Doped Carbon Shell for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Suqiong He et al.

Summary: Using a two-step direct annealing method, uniform and ordered PtFe alloy nanoparticles were synthesized on single-wall carbon nanohorns (SWCNHs), demonstrating excellent catalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The sample exhibited uniform face-centered tetragonal (fct) structure PtFe nanoparticles on the SWCNH support, maintaining high catalytic activity even after long-term stability test.
