Observing flow of He II with unsupervised machine learning

X. Wen et al.

Summary: Time dependent observations of point-to-point correlations of the velocity vector field are important for modeling and understanding fluid flow around complex objects. This study used thermal gradients to observe fluid flow through fluorescence recording, and applied unsupervised machine learning algorithms and particle displacement determination algorithms to analyze the recorded fluorescence.

Turbulence tracks recurrent solutions

Christopher J. Crowley et al.

Summary: Despite extensive scientific investigation, fluid turbulence remains one of the most challenging problems in science and engineering. One key question is the role of coherent structures that describe frequently observed patterns in turbulence. This study provides experimental and numerical evidence that three-dimensional turbulent flow tracks the spatial and temporal structure of multiple coherent structure solutions, indicating that these structures can be harnessed to predict the evolution of turbulent flows.

Hierarchical Assemblies of Polymer Particles through Tailored Interfaces and Controllable Interfacial Interactions

Nikunjkumar R. Visaveliya et al.

Summary: Hierarchical assembly architectures of functional polymer particles are promising due to their physicochemical and surface properties, and various assembly structures can be constructed by adjusting the surface, cross-linked network, and interfacial agents of polymer nanoparticles for controlled interfacial interactions. Microfluidic-mediated platform is used to synthesize polymer nanoparticles with different structural and interfacial properties, followed by assembly under batch or flow conditions.
