In situ tensile and fracture behavior of monolithic ultra-thin amorphous carbon in TEM

Jongchan Yoon et al.

Summary: This study reports on the tensile and fracture behavior of monolithic ultra-thin amorphous carbon (a-C) films, revealing their large plastic strain and high strength. The plasticity is found to be associated with an increased nanoporosity and larger graphitic cluster size, which likely contributes to stiffening of the a-C film. Despite the large plastic strain, catastrophic failure still occurs.

Electrically Tunable Solution-Processed Transparent Conductive Thin Films Based on Colloidally Dispersed ITO@Ag Composite Ink

Yoo Lim Cha et al.

Summary: A colloidal Sn-doped In2O3 (ITO) ink with silver (Ag) introduced was prepared for transparent conductive electrodes. By controlling the weight ratio of ITO and Ag nanoparticles, the ITO@Ag colloid ink was fabricated, showing a flattened and smooth surface due to the metallic silver filling the gap between the nano-particles. The inclusion of silver significantly reduced the resistivity and the films exhibited good optical transparency.

Intrinsic Mechanical Properties of Free-Standing SiNx Thin Films Depending on PECVD Conditions for Controlling Residual Stress

Seung Jin Oh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties of PECVD SiNx thin films and finds that changing the deposition conditions can significantly improve their intrinsic mechanical properties, including Young's modulus, elongation, and fracture strength. These improvements are attributed to increased film density and reduced dangling H of the N-H bonding.

Influence of Ag incorporation on the structural, optical and electrical properties of ITO/Ag/ITO multilayers for inorganic all-solid-state electrochromic devices

Hongli Wang et al.

Summary: By inserting a thin layer of silver (Ag) with various thicknesses between two layers of ITO films, the IAI multilayer structures demonstrates the best combination of electrical and optical properties, with an optimized figure of merit of 54.05 when the Ag film is 10 nm thick. The IAI multilayer structure is considered as a promising alternative to ITO thin film for inorganic all-solid state electrochromic applications.

Unveiling the Annealing-Dependent Mechanical Properties of Freestanding Indium Tin Oxide Thin Films

Seung Jin Oh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanical properties of amorphous and polycrystalline ITO thin films, and studied the effects of annealing temperature and time on their properties. The best elongation and tensile strength were achieved at 150 degrees C for 1 hour of annealing. Proper annealing conditions reduce defects, but excessive annealing can lead to partial crystallization of the films.

Regulating Ag Wettability via Modulating Surface Stoichiometry of ZnO Substrates for Flexible Electronics

Taehyeong Lee et al.

Summary: A novel methodology is presented to regulate the growth mode of ultra-thin Ag layers by modulating the surface stoichiometry of ZnO substrates. This leads to improved performance of Ag layers and transparent electrodes, with significantly higher electrical conductivity and visible transparency compared to previous approaches. The optoelectronic properties are shown to be highly sustainable under various stresses in transparent heating devices.

Low-Temperature Oxide/Metal/Oxide Multilayer Films as Highly Transparent Conductive Electrodes for Optoelectronic Devices

Yunlong Zhang et al.

Summary: Transparent conductors are crucial for optoelectronic and flexible electronic devices, with oxide/metal/oxide (OMO) multilayer films showing promise as an alternative to traditional transparent conductive oxides (TCOs). However, deposition methods like magnetron sputtering or thermal evaporation can lead to device performance deterioration due to ion bombardment or high temperatures. New techniques, such as reactive plasma deposition (RPD) for high-quality MGZO films and ultrathin Ag films prepared by magnetron sputtering, are being explored to improve conductivity and transmittance in OMO structures.
