Assessment of Soil Potentially Toxic Metal Pollution in Kolchugino Town, Russia: Characteristics and Pollution

Inna Z. Kamanina et al.

Summary: The characteristic features of potentially toxic metals (PTMs) in the soil of Kolchugino-Vladimir Region-Russia were described in this study. The mass fractions of Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd were measured using atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). Multivariate statistical analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were performed, and the results were mapped using ArcGIS. Four pollution indices were calculated to identify areas with significant pollution associations. The analysis revealed that urban area and non-ferrous metallurgy plant contributed significantly to pollution.

Toxic metal pollution and ecological risk assessment in water and sediment at ship breaking sites in the Bay of Bengal Coast, Bangladesh

Mir Mohammad Ali et al.

Summary: This study quantified the presence of four toxic metals (As, Cr, Cd, and Pb) in water and sediments at the Sitakunda ship breaking area in Bangladesh and found that the concentrations of these metals exceeded the acceptable limits. The assessment also revealed high water quality and ecological risks in the study area due to metal pollution. Necessary efforts should be made to improve the surrounding environment near the investigated sites.

Combination of GIS and Multivariate Analysis to Assess the Soil Heavy Metal Contamination in Some Arid Zones

Radwa A. El Behairy et al.

Summary: In recent decades, pollutants have posed a danger to food security and human health. This study examines the heavy metal contamination in the soil of the north Nile Delta in Egypt. Using various indices and analysis methods, the study finds widespread contamination of six heavy metals in different soil layers. Additionally, it reveals the significant impact of anthropogenic activities on the concentration levels of heavy metals in the soil.

Human health and ecological risk assessment of trace elements in urban soils of 101 cities in China: A meta-analysis

Vaclav Pecina et al.

Summary: The study assessed urban soil pollution by trace elements in China and found that 11% of cities are heavily polluted. Some cities exceed the standardly accepted tolerable levels of risk, with urban green spaces being threatened. It is recommended to alter the policy of urbanization and develop green infrastructures adapted to high contamination levels.
