Circuit complexity near critical points

Uday Sood et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the complexity of the ground state in the Mott insulator and superfluid phases of the Bose-Hubbard model in two and three spatial dimensions. By using numerical methods and mean field approximation, we find that the complexity exhibits peaks at the O(2) critical points. The complexity can be described by a Bogoliubov transformation applied to the mean field ground state, and near criticality, the numerical results agree with a free field theory calculation. Furthermore, we use general scaling arguments to show that there is a non-analytic behavior in the complexity as we approach the critical point.

Dynamics of entropy and information of time-dependent quantum systems: exact results

K. Andrzejewski

Summary: The dynamical aspects of information-theoretic and entropic measures of quantum systems are studied in this article. It is shown that the increase of entropy and dynamics of Fisher information can be directly described and related for the time-dependent harmonic oscillator and charged particle in certain time-varying electromagnetic fields. Various examples are considered to illustrate these results in a elementary form. The integrals of (geodesic) motion associated with some conformal Killing vectors are shown to lead to the Ermakov-Lewis invariants for the considered electromagnetic fields. The dynamics of entanglement entropy of coupled oscillators with continuous time-dependent parameter is explicitly worked out, and the aspects of quantum-classical transition, in particular decoherence, are analyzed. Finally, the behavior of quantum quenches for mutually non-interacting non-relativistic fermions in a harmonic trap in the presence of critical points is studied in detail.

Complexity, information geometry, and Loschmidt echo near quantum criticality

Nitesh Jaiswal et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between Nielsen complexity, Loschmidt echo, and Fubini-Study complexity in the transverse XY model after a sudden quantum quench was investigated. It was found that NC and LE are related at small times and show enhanced temporal oscillations in the thermodynamic limit, especially when quenching from a close neighborhood of the critical line.

Nielsen complexity of coherent spin state operators

Kunal Pal et al.

Summary: In this study, the Nielsen circuit complexity of coherent spin state operators is calculated. The complexity expression is derived using the small angle approximation of the Euler angle parametrization. The results are extended to systems with time evolutions generated by external field couplings and nonlinearly interacting Hamiltonians. The relationship between Nielsen complexity and squeezing parameters, as well as pairwise entanglement, is investigated. The difficulty with this approach for the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model is identified and resolved by computing the complexity using the Tait-Bryan parametrization.

Complexity measures in QFT and constrained geometric actions

Pablo Bueno et al.

Summary: We have found that inhomogeneous cost functions are unrelated to circuit complexity, while selecting metrics that provide the tightest possible lower bounds helps reduce the list of candidate complexity measures. Assigning infinite costs to directions not belonging to the gate set, among other methods, can reduce unnecessary calculations.

Complexity and information geometry in the transverse XY model

Nitesh Jaiswal et al.

Summary: The study investigates Nielsen complexity and Fubini-Study complexity for the transverse XY spin chain, showing their nonanalyticity at critical lines. Scaling behaviors of both complexities near quantum phase transitions in the thermodynamic limit are obtained, as functions of system parameters. Analytic expressions for the Fubini-Study complexity are derived in special cases, with numerical analysis conducted in more general situations, highlighting differences in complexity notions in the transverse XY model.

Quantum geometric tensor and quantum phase transitions in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model

Daniel Gutierrez-Ruiz et al.

Summary: This study investigates the quantum metric tensor and scalar curvature of a specific version of the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model, analyzing ground-state and excited-state quantum phase transitions. By utilizing the Holstein-Primakoff approximation, analytic expressions for quantum metric tensor and curvatures were derived and compared with finite-size numerical results, showing good agreement except near phase transition points. The classical Hamiltonian was constructed using Bloch coherent states, revealing stability changes and bifurcation during quantum phase transitions.

Information Scrambling versus Decoherence-Two Competing Sinks for Entropy

Akram Touil et al.

Summary: This work develops a thermodynamic description of information scrambling in open quantum systems, separating the entropy change into contributions from scrambling and decoherence with derived statements of the second law. It is complemented with a numerical study of various models in the presence of decoherence in the energy or in the computational basis.
