Efficient light harvesting and photon sensing via engineered cooperative effects

Francesco Mattiotti et al.

Summary: Efficient devices for light harvesting and photon sensing are essential in energy science and various technologies. Inspired by the efficiency of natural photosynthetic systems, researchers have turned to biomimicry to design a new generation of light-capturing devices. In this study, an artificial light-harvesting and photodetection device was designed to maximize cooperative effects and enhance efficiency.

Superradiance and Exciton Delocalization in Perovskite Quantum Dot Superlattices

Daria D. Blach et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coherence of excitons in perovskite quantum dot solids by measuring the temperature-dependent photoluminescence line width and lifetime. The results show that excitons can coherently spread over three quantum dots in a superlattice, leading to superradiant emission. However, scattering from optical phonons causes the loss of coherence at higher temperatures, resulting in exciton localization to a single quantum dot. Static disorder and defects limit exciton coherence at low temperatures.

Dicke Superradiance in Ordered Lattices: Dimensionality Matters

Eric Sierra et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the dimensionality of arrays is the determining factor for driving superradiance. In two-dimensional and three-dimensional arrays, superradiance occurs due to constructive interference, while in one-dimensional arrays it occurs due to destructive interference. These results provide guidance for investigating many-body decay in experimental setups.

Metamorphoses of Cesium Lead Halide Nanocrystals

Stefano Toso et al.

Summary: Colloidal cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals offer easy synthesis and color-pure photoluminescence, but their stability issues and unwanted reactivity pose challenges. The chemistry of these nanocrystals is characterized by intricate patterns of shapes and compositions, and they readily transform under physical stimuli or chemical agents. The ability of these nanocrystals to undergo ion exchanges and trade neutral species with the surrounding environment allows for precise control of their properties and structure.

Aging of Self-Assembled Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocrystal Superlattices: Effects on Photoluminescence and Energy Transfer

Dmitry Baranov et al.

Summary: Excitonic coupling, electronic coupling, and cooperative interactions in self-assembled lead halide perovskite nanocrystals can lead to a red-shifted collective emission peak with accelerated dynamics. Reactivity of nanocrystals within self-assembled superlattices can also result in similar spectroscopic features, such as a narrowing of emission peaks. Aging of CsPbBr3 nanocrystal assemblies alters their emission properties, with a gradual contraction of superlattices and the development of bulk-like particles on top of the superlattices.

Perovskite-type superlattices from lead halide perovskite nanocubes

Ihor Cherniukh et al.

Summary: Through precise structural engineering, perovskite nanocrystals are co-assembled with other nanocrystal materials to form a range of binary and ternary perovskite-type superlattices that exhibit superfluorescence. These ABO3 superlattices, as well as the binary NaCl and AlB2 superlattice structures that we demonstrate, exhibit a high degree of orientational ordering of the CsPbBr3 nanocubes. They also exhibit superfluorescence – a collective emission that results in a burst of photons with ultrafast radiative decay (22 picoseconds) that could be tailored for use in ultrabright (quantum) light sources.

High-temperature superfluorescence in methyl ammonium lead iodide

Gamze Findik et al.

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that the hybrid perovskite MAPbI3 thin film exhibits superfluorescence at temperatures of 78 K and above, demonstrating the potential for collective coherent quantum many-body phases to be used as basic building blocks for quantum applications. By studying the excitation fluence dependence of the spectroscopic features and the population kinetics, all the well-known characteristics of superfluorescence were confirmed in these films.
