Recent advances on Anthraquinone-based photoinitiators of polymerization

Frederic Dumur

Summary: Anthraquinone has been identified as a promising scaffold for designing photoinitiating systems activable in the visible range and under low light intensity. Molecular engineering has allowed the development of water-soluble, panchromatic, or photobleachable dyes based on this scaffold. This review provides an overview of recent advances in photopolymerization using anthraquinone-based photoinitiating systems.

NLOphoric imidazole-fused fluorescent anthraquinone dyes

Nitesh N. Ayare et al.

Summary: The Z-scan and DFT techniques were used to investigate the non-linear optical properties of anthraquinone fused imidazole-based D-pi-A dyes. Analysis revealed the influence of intramolecular charge transfer characteristics and H-bonding process on the electronic and photophysical studies of these derivatives, and showed different NLO properties between the dyes AQ1 and AQ2 due to factors like ICT and H-bonding cores. The experimental findings were successfully correlated with theoretical results, providing insights into the NLO properties enhancement through the combined effect of ICT and H-bonding cores.

Charge separation, charge recombination and intersystem crossing in orthogonal naphthalimide-perylene electron donor/acceptor dyad

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: An orthogonal electron donor/acceptor dyad was studied for its photophysical properties, revealing charge separation upon photoexcitation and an increase in triplet state lifetime and singlet oxygen quantum yield. The low efficiency of spin-orbit-coupled charge transfer-induced intersystem crossing was attributed to energy mismatch and orientation of the donor/acceptor units.
