Impact of free curcumin and curcumin nanocapsules on viability and oxidative status of neural cell lines

Bianca Fagan Bissacotti et al.

Summary: Curcumin is an active polyphenol substance with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, and it has potential in protecting against brain diseases. However, its low bioavailability and difficulty in crossing the blood-brain barrier limit its use. This study aimed to determine safe concentrations and provide a basis for studying injuries in the central nervous system.

Study on adsorption performance of manganese titanium oxide composite biochar for removal of Rhodamine B

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: A novel Mn/Ti/BC composite was synthesized by hydrothermal method to enhance the adsorption performance of Rhodamine B. The microstructure analysis with SEM, FT-IR spectroscopy and XRD confirmed the composite formation. Adsorption experiments were conducted and analyzed with UV spectrophotometer, Langmuir and Freundlich models. The results showed that the removal rate of Rhodamine B reached 98% with the Mn-Ti-C composite, indicating its potential as an excellent and cost-effective adsorption material.

A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

Pharmacokinetic profiles, cytotoxicity, and redox metabolism of free and nanoencapsulated curcumin

Priscila Marquezan Copetti et al.

Summary: In this study, we analyzed the behavior differences of two cell types (PBMCs and HFF-1 cells) treated with curcumin nanocapsule formulations and curcumin solution. Computational predictions showed low biodistribution, discreet gastrointestinal absorption, and immunomodulatory action of curcumin. In vitro tests demonstrated that cell type influenced curcumin behavior, and nanocapsules induced NO production and reduced DCF levels. The study highlights the pleiotropic biological activities of curcumin and the importance of drug release models.

Preparation and characterization of biochar from cement waste for removal of rhodamine B dye

William Leonardo da Silva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the adsorption capacity of a biosorbent, activated carbon from cement waste (AC-CW), for rhodamine dye. The results showed that AC-CW was able to efficiently adsorb the dye, with the highest adsorption efficiency observed at a pH of approximately 4.3. Kinetic adsorption data fitted well with the pseudo-first-order model, while the Sips model was suitable for representing the adsorption equilibrium. The maximum adsorption capacity was determined to be 531.836 mg g-1.

Photocatalytic transformation of Rhodamine B to Rhodamine-110-The mechanism revisited

Anna Jakiminska et al.

Summary: Understanding the TiO2-assisted phototransformations observed for Rhodamine B derivatives is important for comprehensive knowledge of this dye's behavior. The photocatalytic transformations of Rhodamine B involve N-deethylation, forming Rhodamine-110 instead of chromophore degradation. This research studied the N-deethylation process in solution and solid state, and found that the choice of light wavelength is crucial for controlling the degradation pathway. The process does not require reactive oxygen species, but involves photoinduced electron transfer and radical transformations of the dye.

Hiam Marcon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of ethyl polymethacrylate nanocapsules loaded with curcumin on the health and growth of lambs. Results showed that supplementation with low concentrations of nanoencapsulated curcumin improved health, minimized oxidative stress, and indirectly contributed to greater weight gain in lambs. This study suggests that nanocapsules may enhance the effects of curcumin and serve as a new tool in animal nutrition.
