Intraoperative cerebral blood flow monitoring in neurosurgery: A review of contemporary technologies and emerging perspectives

N. Tahhan et al.

Summary: Intraoperative monitoring of cerebral blood flow is an important adjunct to vascular and oncological neurosurgery, reducing postoperative risks. While several technologies have been developed, there is a lack of an optimal technology that perfectly fits the workflow within the neurosurgical operative room.

Registration of IRT and visible light images in neurosurgery: analysis and comparison of automatic intensity-based registration approaches

Yahya Moshaei-Nezhad et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze six automatic intensity-based registration methods for intraoperative infrared thermography and visible light imaging. The results showed that the combination of normalized intensity, mutual information measure, and one-plus-one evolutionary optimizer with Demon registration achieved better accuracy and performance compared to other methods.

A robust optical flow motion estimation and correction method for IRT imaging in brain surgery

Yahya Moshaei-Nezhad et al.

Summary: In this paper, a robust method is proposed to handle multiple motion, outliers, and occlusions in IRT images in brain surgery. The method consists of two phases: preprocessing and image motion estimation, which involve techniques such as RoI segmentation, Phase Correlation method, occlusion masking, intensity adjustment, and Gaussian filtering. The proposed method shows promising results for motion estimation and correction application in brain surgery, as evaluated on 1024 IRT images.

Motion correction for IRT imaging in neurosurgery: Analysis and comparison of frequency-/filter- and intensity-based approaches

Yahya Moshaei-Nezhad et al.

Summary: This paper compares various methods for correcting motion artifacts in infrared thermography (IRT) imaging, demonstrating that intensity-based methods are most effective in estimating and compensating for pulse and breathing motion artifacts while preserving image details and spatial resolution.
