A decellularized nerve matrix scaffold inhibits neuroma formation in the stumps of transected peripheral nerve after peripheral nerve injury

Shuai Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a decellularized nerve matrix scaffold (DNM-S) was used to prevent the formation of painful neuroma after sciatic nerve transection in rats. The DNM-S effectively reduced abnormal extracellular matrix deposition, guided axon regeneration and orderly arrangement, and reduced the density of regenerated axons. It also prevented the invasion of vascular muscular scar tissue, inhibited scar formation, and ultimately reduced pain and autotomy behaviors in animals.

Neural Basis of Dental Pulp Stem Cells and its Potential Application in Parkinson's Disease

Yogita Sharma et al.

Summary: This comprehensive review discusses the application of stem cell therapy for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease (PD). The analysis explores different stem cell candidates for treating PD and their possible mechanisms. The advantage of using neural crest originated Dental Pulp Stem Cells (DPSC) over commonly used bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) is advocated due to their predisposition towards neural differentiation and better potential for regenerating neurons.

Beyond Wrapping: Canonical and Noncanonical Functions of Schwann Cells

Carla Taveggia et al.

Summary: Schwann cells play a crucial role in the peripheral nervous system, supporting and myelinating axons for fast and accurate communication. They exhibit remarkable plasticity and the ability to modulate pathology. In addition to their canonical functions, Schwann cells and related glia also have exciting noncanonical functions, including organizing the PNS, regulating synaptic activity and pain, modulating immunity, providing a pool of stem cells for different organs, and influencing cancer.

Augmenting Peripheral Nerve Regeneration with Adipose-Derived Stem Cells

Liangfu Jiang et al.

Summary: This review discusses the critical role of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) in treating PNIs, including ADSCs differentiating into Schwann cells, secreting growth factors to promote nerve growth, promoting myelination growth, and treatment with scaffolds. It compares the roles of ADSCs and mesenchymal stem cells in regenerative treatment, and discusses administration routes, cell dosages, and cell fates. ADSCs secrete neurotrophic factors and exosomes, and have the potential to differentiate into Schwann cell-like cells that can promote nerve regeneration in the peripheral nervous system.

Marzieh Darvishi et al.

Summary: Stem cell therapy is a potential treatment for spinal cord injury, with research focusing on the differentiation of Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells (hDPSCs) into functional motor neuron like cells (MNLCs) and promoting neuroregeneration in adult spinal cord slice cultures. The study found that hDPSCs can be differentiated into motor neuron phenotype and successfully integrate into spinal slices, showing potential for future therapeutic applications.

The interaction of stem cells and vascularity in peripheral nerve regeneration

Sara Saffari et al.

Summary: The microenvironment at the site of injury plays a crucial role in altering the degree of nerve regeneration after peripheral nerve injury. Stem cells and vascularity are proposed to be important factors in enhancing peripheral nerve regeneration, with stem cells secreting various angiogenic factors and regulating angiogenesis to promote nerve regeneration and vascular expansion.
