Variation in matric potential at field capacity in stony soils of fluvial and alluvial fans

Balin B. Robertson et al.

Summary: This study investigated the matric potential in FAFSS on the Canterbury Plains and found that hydrostatic equilibrium mode was the most common. The results indicate that a capillary break caused by a coarse sandy gravel layer allows hydrostatic equilibrium regardless of groundwater depth.

Shaking settings to reduce the breakdown of Entisol fragile particles in texture analysis

Paulo Ivonir Gubiani et al.

Summary: Through experiments, it was found that the best setting to optimize particle dispersion and minimize changes in particle size distribution was using a horizontal shaker at 150 cycles min(-1) for 1 to 2 hours without using nylon spheres.

Rock size fragments reduction allow including their effect on water retention properties determined with a dew point potentiometer

Paulo Ivonir Gubiani et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of accurately measuring WP4 in coarse materials while retaining water retention properties by processing the coarse materials into different sizes.
