Chromosomal introgressions from Oryza meridionalis into domesticated rice Oryza sativa result in iron tolerance

Andriele Wairich et al.

Summary: The study identified six putative QTLs contributing to Fe-toxicity tolerance in rice and found that an introgression from O. meridionalis on chromosome 9 conferred high tolerance despite high shoot Fe concentrations. Physiological, biochemical, ionomic, and transcriptomic analyses revealed that the tolerance may be explained by higher relative Fe retention in the leaf sheath and culm. The interspecific hybrid genome analysis identified differentially regulated introgressed genes from O. meridionalis that could play a role in shoot-based Fe tolerance.

Combined effects of a glycine-rich RNA-binding protein and a NAC transcription factor extend grain fill duration and improve malt barley agronomic performance

Burcu Alptekin et al.

Summary: Two key barley genes, HvGR-RBP1 and HvNAM1, independently control anthesis and senescence timing, enabling the manipulation of grain fill duration, grain size/plumpness, and grain protein concentration. HvGR-RBP1 plays an important role in controlling barley reproductive development and sets the stage for a more detailed functional analysis of this gene.

Ectopic overexpression of a membrane-tethered transcription factor gene NAC60 from oilseed rape positively modulates programmed cell death and age-triggered leaf senescence

Jingli Yan et al.

Summary: The research reveals that BnaNAC60 is a membrane-tethered NAC transcription factor associated with the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, whose expression is induced during leaf senescence. Translocation of BnaNAC60 to the nucleus is triggered by ER and oxidative stress treatments, leading to modulation of cell death, ROS accumulation, and leaf senescence. Additionally, BnaNAC60 can activate the promoter activities of various downstream target genes, suggesting its role in regulating plant stress responses and developmental processes.

OsNAC109 regulates senescence, growth and development by altering the expression of senescence- and phytohormone-associated genes in rice

Liangjian Li et al.

Summary: OsNAC109 is identified as a crucial regulator in rice leaf senescence, growth and development by binding to the cis-element CNTCSSNNSCAVG and altering the expression of multiple genes associated with senescence and phytohormones in rice.
