A hybrid Monte Carlo study of bond-stretching electron-phonon interactions and charge order in BaBiO3

Benjamin Cohen-Stead et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between electron-phonon interactions and charge-density-wave order in the bismuthate family of high-temperature superconductors. The results demonstrate that coupling to the bond-stretching modes is sufficient to reproduce the CDW transition in this system, despite a relatively small coupling. Additionally, the transition deviates from the weak-coupling Peierls' picture. This work highlights the importance of off-diagonal e-ph interactions in establishing the bismuthate phase diagram.

Quantum critical points and the sign problem

R. Mondaini et al.

Summary: The sign problem is a fundamental limitation in simulations of strongly correlated matter. In this study, the quantitive connection between the sign problem in determinant quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and quantum critical behavior is demonstrated through simulations of several well-understood models. A reinterpretation of the low average sign in the Hubbard model is proposed, relating it to the onset of pseudogap behavior and exotic superconductivity.

Mitigating the fermion sign problem by automatic differentiation

Zhou-Quan Wan et al.

Summary: As an unbiased method, the quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) method is important for simulating interacting quantum systems. However, it often suffers from the sign problem, which can be mitigated by finding better simulation schemes. In this study, researchers propose a general framework called automatic differentiable sign optimization (ADSO) to automatically search for the best QMC scheme within a given ansatz of the Hubbard-Stratonovich transformation. They apply ADSO to the honeycomb lattice Hubbard model with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and demonstrate its effectiveness in mitigating and even solving the sign problem.
