Matrix enrichment by black phosphorus improves ionization and reproducibility of mass spectrometry of intact cells, peptides, and amino acids

Govinda Mandal et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that supplementation of common MALDI matrices with black phosphorus particles can enhance the intensity and reproducibility of mass spectra acquired from intact cells. Black phosphorus particles interact with aromatic groups within molecules, enhancing the intensity of mass spectra of amino acids and peptides. Furthermore, black phosphorus particles induce the formation of crystals of the matrix and analyte on the target plate.

Effects of oxygen atoms and oxygen molecules on the electronic properties of modified black phosphorus

Yuanpu Xu et al.

Summary: Surface modification can effectively enhance the oxidation resistance of black phosphorus, while metal doping does not improve this property. Modified black phosphorus shows obvious changes in energy band structure after absorbing atomic oxygen and O2, indicating good band gap regulation. Special attention should be paid to oxidation issues when utilizing the band gap adjustment advantages of modified black phosphorus.
