Coexistence of Ferroelectriclike Polarization and Dirac-like Surface State in TaNiTe5

Yunlong Li et al.

Summary: By combining various experimental and computational techniques, the low-energy band structure, atomic structure, and charge polarization on the surface of a topological semimetal candidate TaNiTe5 have been studied. Dirac-like surface states and switchable ferroelectric-like polarization were observed, and the noncentrosymmetric surface relaxation was proposed as the origin of the observed ferroelectric-like state in this novel material.

Dirac nodal lines in the quasi-one-dimensional ternary telluride TaPtTe5

Shaozhu Xiao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic structure of ternary telluride TaPtTe5 and identifies a robust nodal-line phase with fourfold degeneracy. Experimental measurements reveal the existence of linearly dispersive Dirac-like bands in a large energy window, forming nodal lines crossing the Fermi level. Theoretical calculations demonstrate the protection of nodal surfaces in the absence of spin-orbit coupling and the breakdown of these surfaces into nodal lines when spin-orbit coupling is included.

Structure and transport properties of the quasi-one-dimensional telluride Ta1.2Os0.8Te4

Wen-He Jiao et al.

Summary: We report the crystal growth, structural characterization, and physical properties of an off-stoichiometric van der Waals telluride Ta1.2Os0.8Te4, which is isostructural with the noncentrosymmetric WTe2, a prototypical type-II Weyl semimetal. Transport measurements have been carried out in magnetic fields up to 9 T. A low-temperature resistivity upturn is observed along all three crystallographic directions at zero field.

Experimental perspective on three-dimensional topological semimetals

B. Q. Lv et al.

Summary: Topological semimetals are characterized by bulk band crossings, which have led to increased research activities in the field due to precise theoretical predictions, well-controlled material synthesis, and advanced characterization techniques. The distinct features of these materials include dimensionality, degeneracy, slope and order of band dispersion, topological invariants, and crystallographic symmetries that stabilize band crossings. Additionally, the unique properties of various topological semimetal phases, such as nontrivial surface states and transport responses, have been reviewed.
