Inorganic CsSnI3 Perovskite Solar Cells: The Progress and Future Prospects

Guiqiang Wang et al.

Summary: Efforts are being made to develop lead-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs) as concerns about the toxicity of lead hinder its large-scale application. Among the alternatives, tin-based perovskites, specifically CsSnI3 perovskite, show great promise due to their ideal properties. Despite achieving an efficiency of 10.1%, there is still room for improvement considering the theoretical efficiency of over 30%. This article summarizes the properties of CsSnI3 perovskite, provides insights into the challenges hindering efficiency improvements, discusses device engineering strategies, and highlights the remaining challenges and future perspectives for highly efficient CsSnI3 PSCs.

Silicon Dioxide Nanoparticles Increase the Incidence Depth of Short-Wavelength Light in Active Layer for High-Performance Perovskite Solar Cells

Jiyuan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, the issue of shallow penetration depth of short-wavelength light in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) was successfully addressed by incorporating silica nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) into the perovskite active layer, leading to enhanced light scattering effect, improved charge transport, and suppressed charge recombination. As a result, the modified device exhibited a significant increase in short-circuit current density and a higher power conversion efficiency compared to the reference device.

Constructing Efficient Hole-Transporting Materials by Tuning Fluorine Substitution for Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells with Efficiency Exceeding 20%

Biyi Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, dopant-free hole-transporting materials (HTMs) based on three pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyrrole (PP) core building blocks with different fluorine substitutions were synthesized and applied in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The number and position of fluorine substitutions had a significant impact on the photochemical and photovoltaic performances of the resulting HTMs. The hexafluorine-substituted HTM, 6FPPY, exhibited excellent hole extraction efficiency and achieved a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 20.1% with negligible hysteresis and good long-term stability. This work paves the way for the design of cost-effective, dopant-free HTMs for high-performance inverted PSCs.

Role of surface termination and quantum size in α-CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) 2D nanostructures for solar light harvesting

Giovanni Di Liberto et al.

Summary: The surface termination of alpha-CsPbX3 plays a crucial role in determining the electronic properties, with X-terminated (110) surfaces being more stable and having lower energy band edges compared to (001) surfaces. Furthermore, properties of alpha-CsPbX3 can be tuned by varying thickness, and a general model for predicting quantum size effects from ultrathin films to bulk is presented. Additionally, type-II alignment in composites like CsPbX3/TiO2 is estimated to facilitate electron migration, aiding in the rational design of halide perovskite nanostructures for efficient solar energy harvesting.
