Barriers to screening, diagnosis and management of hyperglycaemia in pregnancy in Africa: a systematic review

Thomas Hinneh et al.

Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) diagnosis and management face multiple barriers in Africa, including shortages of healthcare providers and knowledge deficits in the health system, as well as limited understanding and support from patients and families. Societal barriers such as consulting traditional healers and cultural taboos related to food and body image perception also contribute to the challenges.
