Review of the armoured catfish genus Hypostomus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) from the Parnaiba River basin. Northeastern Brazil, with description of a new species

Summary: This study reviews the species of Hypostomus from the Parnaiba River basin using molecular and morphological analysis. Five species were identified, including a new species. The distribution of H. pusarum was expanded to this basin, and a closely related species was recorded. The new species is distinguished by its unique characteristics such as tooth count, dental angle, pattern of spots, and abdominal plaques. The article also provides an identification key and geographic distribution maps.

A new miniature Pristella (Actinopterygii: Characiformes: Characidae) with reversed sexual dimorphism from the rio Tocantins and rio Sao Francisco basins, Brazil

Summary: A new species of the genus Pristella, Pristella crinogi, is described from Brazil, with distinct color pattern and teeth morphology characters from its congeners. Phylogenetic analysis shows a close relationship between P. crinogi and P. ariporo. Additionally, the reversed sexual dimorphism in P. crinogi and P. ariporo is noted in this study.
