Preparation of PbSe targets for 79Se neutron capture cross section studies

Nadine M. Chiera et al.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology for the production of PbSe targets for Se-79 neutron capture cross section studies. The PbSe material was synthesized and characterized, and thin targets were produced for cross section experiments. The morphology and composition of the targets were analyzed, and a procedure for the recovery of Se from PbSe was suggested.

Imaging neutron capture cross sections: i-TED proof-of-concept and future prospects based on Machine-Learning techniques

V Babiano-Suarez et al.

Summary: This study successfully validated the feasibility of i-TED for high-resolution time-of-flight experiments and demonstrated the concept of background rejection for the first time. Experimental results showed that i-TED has a detection sensitivity approximately 3 times higher than state-of-the-art detectors in the neutron energy region of astrophysical interest. The study also explored the potential for further performance enhancement with a final i-TED array consisting of twenty position-sensitive detectors and new analysis methodologies based on Machine-Learning techniques.

Machine Learning aided 3D-position reconstruction in large LaCl3 crystals

J. Balibrea-Correa et al.

Summary: Five different models were investigated for reconstructing the 3D gamma-ray hit coordinates in LaCl3(Ce) monolithic crystals, achieving high resolution using analytical models at different crystal thicknesses, and correcting for linearity distortions and pin-cushion effects with a machine learning algorithm.
