Energy Transfer in Dy3+ and Tb3+ Double-Doped Barium Borate Glass

Michelle Gruene et al.

Summary: Single- and double-doped Dy3+ and Tb3+ barium borate glasses were investigated as potential light converters. Increasing lanthanide content led to linearly increasing trends in density and absorption coefficient. The external quantum efficiency of the double-doped samples combined the respective single-doped samples. Strong energy transfer from Dy3+ to Tb3+ resulted in intense Tb-3 +-related emission, namely intense green luminescence. Excitation at a Dy3+-related wavelength of 452nm enabled Tb3+-related emission, which was barely present in single-doped Tb3+ samples. Lifetime measurements indicated bidirectional energy transfer between Dy3+ and Tb3+.

A Temporal and Space Anti-counterfeiting Based on the Four-Modal Luminescent Ba2Zr2Si3O12 Phosphors

Xiaodie Zhu et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed a type of phosphor doped with Eu2+ and Er3+ ions, which exhibits four anti-counterfeiting modes including photo, long persistent, photo-stimulated, and upconversion luminescence. The phosphor emits intense blue-green luminescence and rapidly changes to stable green luminescence with the delay of excitation time. This work provides a basis for the potential application of multi-mode anti-counterfeiting technology.

Intense and efficient green mechanoluminescence in CaLaAl3O7 through Tb3+ doping

Shiye Qin et al.

Summary: This work reports an efficient mechanoluminescent material, CaLaAl3O7:Tb3+, with green emitting color, whose intensity is dependent on the doping concentration of Tb3+ whether stimulated by stretching or rubbing. By comparing with the commercial ZnS:Cu, CaLaAl3O7:Tb3+ exhibits a higher intensity under the same conditions.

MgF2:Mn2+: novel material with mechanically-induced luminescence

Jingjing Ning et al.

Summary: Mechanoluminescent (ML) materials can convert external mechanical stimulation into light, making them potentially useful in various areas. Currently, reproducible ML materials are mainly limited to sulfide- and oxide-based materials. This study presents a novel ML material, MgF2:Mn2+, which emits bright red light under external dynamic force without the need for pre-charging with UV light. Additionally, a highly transparent ML film incorporating MgF2:Mn2+ into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrices was successfully fabricated.

Fabrication and photoluminescence characteristics of novel red-emitting Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ double-perovskite phosphors on near UV WLEDs

Haihong Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient double-perovskite Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphor was successfully prepared, which exhibits high-brightness orange and red emission under near-ultraviolet excitation. The red emission intensity exceeds the orange emission when the content of Eu3+ is larger than 0.4 mol. The CIE chromaticity coordinates of the phosphor are (0.587, 0.361), with a color purity of 72.26% and an internal quenching efficiency of 67%. These results suggest that the double-perovskite Ba2LuNbO6:Eu3+ phosphor has potential applications in WLEDs.

Red-Emitting SrGa2O4:Cu2+Phosphor with Super-Long Persistent Luminescence

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: The red afterglow of current rare-earth-activated long persistent luminescence (LPL) phosphors is limited to less than 6 hours, hindering their practical multiscenario applications. In this study, a rare-earth-free red-emitting LPL phosphor SrGa2O4:Cu2+ was developed, which exhibited an afterglow lasting over 30 hours at around 622 nm, matching the luminance of blue or green-emitting LPL phosphors. The Cu2+ ion was charged by ultraviolet light and emitted light over a broad band. The vacancies in oxygen and negatively charged gallium contributed to the long persistent luminescence of SrGa2O4:Cu2+. These findings could significantly expand the potential applications of LPL phosphors and stimulate future research on multicolor LPL phosphors.
