Unbiased Screening of Novel Infrared Nonlinear Optical Materials with High Thermal Conductivity: Long-neglected Nitrides and Popular Chalcogenides

Dongdong Chu et al.

Summary: We propose a method for efficient screening of over 140,000 materials to explore novel infrared nonlinear optical (NLO) materials with high thermal conductivity and wide band gap, which are crucial for practical applications in solid-state lasers. Through our screening method, 106 compounds with desired band gaps, NLO coefficients, and thermal conductivity are identified, including the synthesis of Sr2SnS4 to verify the reliability of our process. This strategy provides a powerful tool for searching NLO compounds with high thermal conductivity.

NaBaBS3: A Promising Infrared Functional Material with Large Birefringence Induced by π-Conjugated [BS3] Units

Yihan Yun et al.

Summary: The first thioborate compound NaBaBS3 and a new phase of LiBaBS3 (beta-phase) have been successfully synthesized. NaBaBS3 shows great potential as an infrared birefringence material due to its large birefringence, wide band gap, and high laser-induced damage threshold. The results suggest that the large birefringence is mainly induced by the pi-conjugated [BS3] units.

Enhancement of Birefringence in Borophosphate Pushing Phase-Matching into the Short-Wavelength Region

Wenbin Zhang et al.

Summary: Borophosphates are widely studied for their short ultraviolet cutoff edge, but their weak polarizability anisotropy hinders their application in the ultraviolet and deep-UV regions. This study successfully synthesized seven borophosphates with improved birefringence by introducing birefringent functional groups. Among them, Rb3B8PO16 exhibited promising UV non-linear optical properties and KB6PO10(OH)4 showed excellent birefringence in the deep-UV region.

Design of Infrared Nonlinear Optical Compounds with Diamond-like Structures and Balanced Optical Performance

Dongdong Chu et al.

Summary: Infrared nonlinear optical crystals are crucial for expanding the output range of solid-state lasers, but their application is limited due to the challenge of balancing large band gaps and strong NLO response. This study proposes a computational workflow to explore diamond-like structures, and successfully predicts a series of LiMgGaSe3 structures with good optical performance.

LaBS3 revisited: a promising mid-infrared nonlinear optical material

Ya-Xiang Han et al.

Summary: Researchers report a new synthetic route to prepare LaBS3, a crystal with excellent mid-infrared nonlinear optical properties. The experimental results show that LaBS3 exhibits a large second-harmonic generation effect, high laser induced-damage threshold, wide band gap, wide infrared transmission range, and high thermal stability. Theoretical calculations suggest that the large second-harmonic generation effect of this material originates from the synergy effects of the pi-conjugated [BS3](3-) anions and [LaS9](15-) groups.
