Biological monitoring and health assessment of 21 metal(loid)s in children and adolescents in Liuzhou City, Southwest China

Yaping Li et al.

Summary: Exposure to metal(loid)s is associated with adverse effects on human health, especially for children and adolescents. Age and gender were found to be important predictors of exposure levels, while dietary habits also played a role in the distribution of elements. Furthermore, the study estimated exposure risks and found that the mixed effect of certain metals poses a concern for associated health risks.

Phosphate drinking water softeners promote Legionella growth

Gregor Jereb et al.

Summary: Phosphate-based drinking water softeners can stimulate the growth of Legionella pneumophila, and their use may result in growth stimulation in drinking water distribution systems. Therefore, the use of phosphate-based chemicals, especially in drinking water with high concentrations of other nutrients, should be avoided or used with caution.

Phosphate removal from water using bottom ash: adsorption performance, coexisting anions and modelling studies

Khalid S. Hashim et al.

Summary: Phosphate in freshwater has significant effects on water quality and human health, and adsorption methods are found to be a convenient solution for water remediation. This study successfully employed industrial by-products to remove phosphate from water and developed a reliable model to simulate the removal process.

Environmental Management of Legionella in Domestic Water Systems: Consolidated and Innovative Approaches for Disinfection Methods and Risk Assessment

Emanuele Luigi Sciuto et al.

Summary: Legionella can exist as planktonic bacteria in water or grow within biofilms on pipes, it has various survival states and adaptabilities. Environmental factors regulating Legionella growth and water treatment distribution conditions are crucial for its survival, implementing water management plans is the main prevention measure.

Environmental barium: potential exposure and health-hazards

Massimiliano Peana et al.

Summary: The relatively widespread presence of environmental barium is raising public awareness due to its potential health effects. Barium accumulation mainly occurs through workplace exposure, drinking contaminated water, and dietary intake from plant foods. Further research is needed to better understand the global intake of barium and its health implications.
