Cancer statistics, 2022

Rebecca L. Siegel et al.

Summary: Each year, the American Cancer Society compiles data on cancer occurrence and outcomes in the United States. The latest data shows that breast and prostate cancer progress has stagnated, while lung cancer has shown improvements in survival rates. Lung cancer incidence for advanced disease has declined while localized-stage rates have increased, resulting in higher survival rates. Mortality patterns align with incidence trends, with lung cancer deaths declining rapidly, breast cancer deaths slowing, and prostate cancer deaths stabilizing.

Targeted therapy and drug resistance in thyroid cancer

Yujie Zhang et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the rapid development of treatment for advanced thyroid cancer and the study of drug resistance mechanisms. The current treatment for advanced thyroid cancer is not satisfactory due to the existence of drug resistance. Understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance in thyroid cancer is crucial for improving the effectiveness of combination therapy and promoting the development of new drugs.

GREM1 is required to maintain cellular heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer

Linxiang Lan et al.

Summary: This study identifies BMP inhibitor GREM1 as a key regulator of cellular heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer. Continuous activity of GREM1 is required to maintain the stability of the epithelial PDAC subpopulations, while high activity of GREM1 can revert the mesenchymal fate of PDAC cells. By inhibiting the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition transcription factors, GREM1 restricts the epithelial-mesenchymal plasticity of pancreatic cancer cells.

Sushi-Repeat-Containing Protein X-Linked 2: A Potential Therapeutic Target for Inflammation and Cancer Therapy

Jinhua Chen et al.

Summary: SRPX2 is an abnormal expression in multiple cancers and plays a role in cancer carcinogenesis, chemosensitivity, and prognosis. It promotes cancer cell metastasis, invasion, and migration by regulating various signaling pathways. SRPX2 also exhibits antifibrosis effect and may serve as a therapeutic target for inflammation and cancer-related inflammation.

SRPX2 Promotes Tumor Proliferation and Migration via the FAK Pathway in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

Ning Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression and function of SRPX2 in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). It was found that SRPX2 was significantly upregulated in PTC tissues and cell lines, and its silencing inhibited PTC growth and migration. Further experiments revealed that SRPX2 exerted its functions through activating FAK phosphorylation. Thus, SRPX2 could serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for PTC.

Do Ultrasound Patterns and Clinical Parameters Inform the Probability of Thyroid Cancer Predicted by Molecular Testing in Nodules with Indeterminate Cytology?

James J. Figge et al.

Summary: The study showed that molecular testing results (TSv3) are key factors associated with the presence of cancer/NIFTP in thyroid nodules, while other clinical parameters (sex, age, Bethesda category, and ATA US pattern) provided some supplemental information, but did not significantly impact the prediction. The simplest and most efficient clinical model combining TSv3 and sex was effective in predicting the risk of cancer/NIFTP.

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal lung disease characterized by abnormal transition and proliferation of fibroblasts, which lead to progressive damage to lung tissue. Effective therapeutic strategies to block this cellular transition are currently lacking.
