Spin-Flip Raman Scattering on Electrons and Holes in Two-Dimensional (PEA)2PbI4 Perovskites

Carolin Harkort et al.

Summary: This article discusses the optical properties and spin phenomena of Ruddlesden-Popper type (PEA)(2)PbI4 perovskites. The Zeeman splitting of electrons and holes in a magnetic field was measured using spin-flip Raman scattering. The electron and hole g factors were evaluated, their anisotropies were measured, and the dynamic nuclear spin polarization induced by spin-polarized holes was detected.

Materials for chiral light control

Jeanne Crassous et al.

Summary: Solution-processable semiconductors based on small molecules, polymers or halide perovskites combine sustainable manufacturing with exceptional optoelectronic properties that can be chemically tailored to achieve flexible and highly efficient optoelectronic and photonic devices. A new exciting research direction is the study of the influence of chirality on light-matter interactions in these soft materials and its exploitation for the simultaneous control of charge, spin and light. In this Viewpoint, researchers working on different types of chiral semiconductors discuss the most interesting directions in this rapidly expanding field.

On the optical anisotropy in 2D metal-halide perovskites

Mark Steger et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive approach combining experimental and theoretical methods is used to investigate the optical properties and anisotropy of two-dimensional metal-halide perovskites. The research reveals the fundamental physical parameters that shape the electronic structure of these materials and demonstrates a strong correlation between structure and induced optical anisotropy.

Dark and Bright Excitons in Halide Perovskite Nanoplatelets

Moritz Gramlich et al.

Summary: Semiconductor nanoplatelets exhibit thickness-dependent bright-dark exciton splitting, affecting the optical properties of the thinnest nanoplatelets. This phenomenon, revealed through temperature-resolved and time-resolved studies, can be generalized to isotropically or anisotropically confined nanostructures.

Quantification of Exciton Fine Structure Splitting in a Two-Dimensional Perovskite Compound

Katarzyna Posmyk et al.

Summary: This study reveals the exciton fine structure of (PEA)2PbI4 single crystals using low temperature magneto-optical spectroscopy and provides valuable quantification of the fine structure splitting in (PEA)2PbI4. The results support the standard multiband, effective-mass theories for the exciton fine structure in 2D perovskites.

Transient quantum beatings of trions in hybrid organic tri-iodine perovskite single crystal

Uyen N. Huynh et al.

Summary: Utilizing the spin degree of freedom of photoexcitations in hybrid organic inorganic perovskites for quantum information science applications has been proposed and explored. In this study, the authors investigated quantum beating oscillations in the circularly polarized photoinduced reflection of single crystal methyl-ammonium tri-iodine perovskite (MAPbI(3)) and observed two quantum beating oscillations whose frequencies depend on the crystal orientation. They identified these oscillations as being caused by positive and negative trions and measured the spin coherence time of electrons and holes using the technique of resonant spin amplification.

Tuning the Excitonic Properties of the 2D (PEA)2(MA)n-1PbnI3n+1 Perovskite Family via Quantum Confinement

Mateusz Dyksik et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the evolution of fundamental excitonic properties in 2D perovskites through experimental optical spectroscopy in high magnetic fields. The findings contradict the general expectation of enhanced carrier mass with quantum confinement, showing new flexibility in designing electronic properties.

Brightening of dark excitons in 2D perovskites

Mateusz Dyksik et al.

Summary: The study shows that in-plane magnetic field can brighten optically inactive dark excitons and the bright-dark splitting increases with the exciton binding energy. The non-Boltzmann distribution of bright-dark exciton populations in the materials may result from the phonon bottleneck phenomenon.

Structural descriptor for enhanced spin-splitting in 2D hybrid perovskites

Manoj K. Jana et al.

Summary: A specific bond angle disparity connected with asymmetric tilting distortions of metal halide octahedra correlates with the computed spin-splitting in 2D hybrid perovskites. This distortion metric can serve as a crystallographic descriptor for rapidly discovering potential candidate materials with strong spin-splitting. Local inorganic layer distortions induced via appropriate organic cations provide a key design objective to achieve strong spin-splitting in perovskites.
