Multiscale Contextual Poverty in the Netherlands: Within and Between-Municipality Inequality

Ana Petrovic et al.

Summary: Contextual poverty refers to high concentrations of low-income individuals in a specific spatial context, influencing individual socioeconomic outcomes and decisions. This phenomenon is multiscale, with poverty levels reflecting regional economic development and meso-scale concentrations of poverty within cities. Understanding contextual poverty involves examining inequality within and between places at different spatial scales.

Engaging New Parents in the Development of a Peer Nutrition Education Model Using Participatory Action Research

Richard Ball et al.

Summary: This study investigated the implementation model and research methods of a peer education program for new parents focused on infant feeding and nutrition. Associations between indicators of socioeconomic position and DNA methylation: a scoping review

Janine Cerutti et al.

Summary: The evidence suggests that socioeconomic position influences DNA methylation, with variations in patterns depending on the timing, duration, and type of socioeconomic indicator. However, longitudinal studies examining repeated socioeconomic position and DNA methylation measures are generally lacking. Conceptual and methodological diversity in prior studies limits the interpretability of findings related to these three features of socioeconomic position.

The role of parental and child physical and mental health on behavioural and emotional adjustment in mid-childhood: a comparison of two generations of British children born 30 years apart

Sam Parsons et al.

Maternal health and health-related behaviours and their associations with child health: Evidence from an Australian birth cohort

Kabir Ahmad et al.

Summary: The study found that poor maternal physical and mental health during or up to 15 months after childbirth was associated with adverse health outcomes for their offspring, including poor general health, presence of chronic health conditions, and lower physical health scores. Additionally, the presence of a chronic condition in mothers during pregnancy significantly increased the likelihood of their offspring having a chronic condition in infancy and adolescence. Stressful life events and mental health issues in mothers were also found to impact the health of their children during adolescence and infancy, respectively.

Infant Feeding and Ethnic Differences in Body Mass Index during Childhood: A Prospective Study

Outi Sirkka et al.

Summary: This study found that Turkish children had higher BMI-sds at age 3 and 5 compared to Dutch children, with CF variety playing a role in attenuating the ethnic differences in BMI-sds at these ages. CF factors, especially CF variety, explain a small fraction of the BMI-sds differences between Dutch and Turkish children, suggesting the need for further investigation into the role of CF variety on childhood BMI.
