Optimization of a Monobromobimane (MBB) Derivatization and RP-HPLC-FLD Detection Method for Sulfur Species Measurement in Human Serum after Sulfur Inhalation Treatment

Barbara Roda et al.

Summary: This study proposes an improved analytical protocol for the MBB RP-HPLC method and validates it. The MBB concentration, temperature, and sample handling were optimized, and the calibration method was validated using leave-one-out cross-validation and tested in a clinical setting. The method shows high sensitivity and allows the quantification of H2S species, with a limit of detection of 0.5 μM. Finally, it can be successfully applied in measurements of H2S levels in the serum of patients subjected to inhalation with vapors rich in H2S.

Activation of renal CSE/H2S pathway by alpha-lipoic acid protects against histological and functional changes in the diabetic kidney

George J. Dugbartey et al.

Summary: The study reveals that alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) protects against the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) by activating renal cystathionine gamma-lyase/hydrogen sulfide (CSE/H2S) system in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Pharmacological evidence that potassium channels mediate hydrogen sulfide-induced inhibition of the vasopressor sympathetic outflow in pithed rats

Grecia J. Medina-Terol et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of potassium channels in the sympathoinhibition induced by hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The results showed that the sympathoinhibition was not dependent on sex and was mediated by the activation of multiple potassium channels.

Investigation of the Hydrogen Sulfide Signaling Pathway in Schwann Cells during Peripheral Nerve Degeneration: Multi-Omics Approaches

Yoo Lim Chun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of NEM on H2S signaling in Schwann cells and found that it regulates oxidative stress, lipid metabolism, and the cell cycle. The findings highlight the importance of H2S signaling in Schwann cell dedifferentiation, proliferation, and myelination.

A Cost-effective Liquid Core Waveguide Based on a Concentrated Acid Medium for Colorimetric Determination of Sulfide

Wasin Somboot et al.

Summary: A cost-effective long-path absorption liquid core waveguide (LCW) device, fabricated from a typical Teflon tube and using high refractive index (RI) medium of acid, was successfully applied in a flow injection-gas diffusion system for sensitive determination of sulfide via methylene blue (MB) chemistry. The device achieved a detection limit of 0.13 μmol L-1 without preconcentration, and showed good recovery rates of 88.7 - 103% in canal water samples.

Hydrogen sulfide protects hippocampal CA1 neurons against lead mediated neuronal damage via reduction oxidative stress in male rats

Raheleh Rafaiee et al.

Summary: The study found that H2S plays an important role in alleviating learning and memory impairments and cell death caused by lead exposure, mainly through inhibiting cell apoptosis and reducing oxidative stress levels.
