An Explanation of Deep MIMO Detection From a Perspective of Homotopy Optimization

Mingjie Shao et al.

Summary: Since the work of DetNet in 2017, deep unfolding for MIMO detection has become popular. In this paper, the authors explain DetNet by drawing connection to a homotopy optimization approach. They show that DetNet can be interpreted as a homotopy method realized by the proximal gradient method and extend this interpretation to the Frank-Wolfe and ADMM variants. Numerical results are provided to compare the performance of these homotopy-inspired DetNets and non-deep homotopy methods.

Efficient iterative massive MIMO detection using Chebyshev acceleration

Salah Berra et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a low complexity signal detection algorithm based on the modified accelerated overrelaxation (MAOR) method for the fifth generation (5G) baseband receiver in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. This method iteratively approaches the performance of the linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection and enhances the performance of the algorithm using the Chebyshev polynomial acceleration technique. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art detection algorithms in terms of convergence speed and performance.

Algorithm Parameters Selection Method With Deep Learning for EP MIMO Detector

Hang Chen et al.

Summary: An EP-based MIMO detector may not achieve superior performance due to empirical parameter selection, thus a modified EP MIMO detector (MEPD) with deep learning parameter selection is proposed. By training the parameters offline, MEPD outperforms the original detector in various MIMO scenarios and shows better robustness in practical scenarios.

Summary: This paper proposes a detector based on AOR and a stair matrix to iteratively avoid the inverse of equalization matrix and expedite the convergence rate. Suitable schemes for selecting relaxation and acceleration parameters are also proposed for high performance and low complexity. Numerical results show a dramatic reduction in computational complexity and better performance compared to the Neumann series method.
