Visible Light-Induced Reactive Yellow 145 Discoloration: Structural and Photocatalytic Studies of Graphene Quantum Dot-Incorporated TiO2

Syeda Kinza Fatima et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of graphene quantum dot (GQD)-incorporated TiO2 nanocomposites for the photocatalytic treatment of reactive yellow 145 (RY145) dye. Results showed that the 15GQD-TiO2 nanocomposite achieved a 99.3% discoloration of RY145 dye in 30 minutes under visible light irradiation. The study also found that GQDs and TiO2 played a vital role in the generation of electrons and holes during the photocatalytic process.

Graphene aerogel modified TiO2 photocatalysts with high performances by controllable agglomeration behaviour of TiO2 nanoparticles

Yunfei Sun et al.

Summary: This study successfully controlled the agglomeration degree of TiO2 nanoparticles by using graphene aerogel as a scaffold. The optimized sample showed prolonged lifetime of photoinduced electrons and significantly enhanced the density of active hydroxyl radicals. The BET area and adsorption ability were also improved after the optimization process. The optimized sample exhibited high degradation rates for rhodamine-B and phenol under both UV-light and visible-light irradiation.

Graphene Quantum Dots Decorated TiO2 Nanostructures: Sustainable Approach for Photocatalytic Remediation of an Industrial Pollutant

Suprabhat Sarkar et al.

Summary: An efficient photocatalytic system comprised of liquid exfoliated graphene quantum dots (GQDs) and TiO2 has been developed, with the catalyst containing 2% GQDs and TiO2 nanotubes exhibiting a high degradation efficiency of 96.7% towards methylene blue under visible light irradiation. The study also indicates the reusability of the photocatalyst through multiple cycles. The synthesis of metal-free GQDs plays a crucial role in extending visible light absorption and enhancing electron-hole separation in the nanocomposites, resulting in a lower band gap.

Facile and Green Fabrication of Microwave-Assisted Reduced Graphene Oxide/Titanium Dioxide Nanocomposites as Photocatalysts for Rhodamine 6G Degradation

Andri Hardiansyah et al.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites consisting of reduced graphene oxide and titanium dioxide (rGO/TiO2) were synthesized using a simple and green approach, showing promising potential for photocatalytic degradation of dyes and other recalcitrant pollutants. The optimal composition of the nanocomposite exhibited improved photocatalytic performance for the degradation of rhodamine 6G. The presence of rGO in the nanocomposites effectively suppressed the electron-hole recombination process in TiO2, leading to enhanced photocatalytic efficiency.

Lerf-Klinowski-type models of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide are robust in analyzing non-covalent functionalization with porphyrins

Alexandra Siklitskaya et al.

Summary: Graphene-based nanohybrids show potential for various applications, but challenges such as low solubility and aggregation limit graphene's usefulness. Derivatives like GO and RGO have great properties and can be produced in large quantities. Nanohybrids of GO/RGO with porphyrins have potential in fields like photocatalysis and drug delivery, but questions remain about their structure and interaction. Experimental and theoretical studies on the interaction between GO/RGO and metal-free porphyrins suggest that the nanohybrids are non-emissive due to significant charge-transfer character in excited states. Efficient simulation methods may help in screening properties of new GO/RGO nanohybrids.
