Flow distribution in the liquid film created by a coherent circular water jet impinging obliquely on a plane wall

M. W. L. Chee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of liquid flow on a vertical wall and found that the angle of impingement affects the flow distribution. The experimental results suggest that detailed numerical calculations are needed for accurate estimation of flow distribution.

On the non-circular hydraulic jump for an impinging inclined jet

Ahmed Abdelaziz et al.

Summary: In this study, an integral approach is used to analyze the flow field and hydraulic jumps structure of a laminar inclined circular jet impinging on a horizontal surface. The interplay among inertia, gravity, viscosity, and the effective inclination angle on the non-axisymmetric flow is investigated. The presence of the boundary layer near impingement and the azimuthal flow are taken into account in this study.

Flow characterization in the uphill region of pulsed oblique round jet

Abhishek Mishra et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of jet pulsations on the development of a wall jet in the uphill region of an inclined water jet. The results show that pulsations have no significant effect on the free jet region, but influence the development and velocity decay rate of the wall jet. The Reynolds number and jet impingement angle also affect the development and velocity decay of the wall jet.

Quenching of a heated wall with spatial temperature gradient using a liquid film through oblique jet impingement

Noritaka Sako et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the quenching effect of water jet impingement on a heated aluminum alloy plate, and found that the wetting front propagation was influenced by the mass flow rate rather than the liquid jet velocity. The study also estimated the contribution of the injected liquid to cooling, and found that about 90% of the injected liquid splashed away without evaporating.

Effects of jet-to-target spacing on primary and secondary peak heat transfer for an obliquely impinging jet

Prashant Singh

Summary: This paper presents an experimental investigation on the primary and secondary peak heat transfer characteristics of an obliquely (45 degrees) impinging jet on a flat and smooth target surface. The effects of jet Reynolds number (Re) and jet-to-target spacings (z/d) have been studied, and the results reveal the dependence of the primary and secondary peak location and heat transfer level on Re and z/d in oblique jet impingement. The comparison with 90 degrees (orthogonal) jet impingement shows that the primary and secondary peaks are sharper and have higher heat transfer levels in the 45 degrees impingement case.

Experimental investigation of scour of sand beds by submerged circular vertical turbulent jets

Jiaqi Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the development of sand bed scour caused by impinging turbulent jets and developed models for predicting the scour effects. The results showed that the scour profiles in the equilibrium state were similar and the scour hole in the jet central region was primarily determined by jet momentum flux. The temporal evolution of the scour hole was found to be logarithmic, and three phases were distinguished.

Novel Jet Cutter Cartridge for Eliminating Deepwater Stuck Pipe Hazards

Y. -F. Cheng et al.

Summary: A new type of jet cutter cartridge has been designed to eliminate deep water stuck pipe hazards in the drilling industry, with the main structure consisting of a linear shaped charge including hydrogen-based emulsion explosives and copper tubes. Experimental results have shown that the properties of the hydrogen-based emulsion explosive meet the requirement for the environment of the stuck point. This annular jet cutter cartridge has been successfully applied in a copper mine to solve a stuck pipe incident, improving drilling efficiency and reducing costs.
