Coronary flow reserve and cardiovascular outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Mihir A. Kelshiker et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis aims to quantify the association between reduced coronary flow and all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). The results show that abnormal coronary flow reserve (CFR) is associated with higher incidence of all-cause mortality and MACE. Each 0.1 unit reduction in CFR is associated with a proportional increase in mortality and MACE.

Adverse Effects of Kampo Medicines

Yutaka Shimada

Summary: This article summarizes the adverse effects of Kampo medicines, including immunoallergic reactions and overdose reactions. Adverse effects associated with formulas containing Scutellaria root are more common. It is necessary to consider these potential adverse effects when prescribing Kampo medicines in clinical practice.

Acetylcholine Rechallenge A First Step Toward Tailored Treatment in Patients With Coronary Artery Spasm

Andreas Seitz et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the feasibility and clinical value of acetylcholine rechallenge in detecting coexisting epicardial and microvascular spasm and determine the efficacy of nitroglycerin in these spasm endotypes. The results showed a high frequency of epicardial spasm with coexisting nitroglycerin-persistent microvascular spasm. Intracoronary nitroglycerin effectively prevented reinducibility of epicardial spasm but only attenuated microvascular spasm in a minority of patients.

Coronary Microvascular Vasodilatory Function: Related Clinical Features and Differences According to the Different Coronary Arteries and Types of Coronary Spasm

Hiroki Teragawa et al.

Summary: This study found that smoking affects the microvascular vasodilatory function in patients with non-obstructive coronary artery disease, suggesting that smoking cessation may improve vascular function in these patients. In addition, it may be important to consider the coronary artery being evaluated and the type of spasm when assessing vascular function.

Koichiro Tanaka et al.

Summary: The concept of blood stasis, originating in traditional Chinese medicine, is a unique pathophysiology that relates to hemodynamic disorders caused by quantitative and qualitative changes in blood. Keishibukuryogan is a commonly used anti-blood stasis prescription, with clinical applications in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Endocrine Metabolism, Rheumatology, and Dermatology. Research on Keishibukuryogan has shown associations with oxidative stress, coagulopathy, lipid metabolism, and inflammatory factors.

Role of acetylcholine spasm provocation test as a pathophysiological assessment in nonobstructive coronary artery disease

Satoru Suzuki et al.

Summary: Coronary angiography may show nonobstructive coronary arteries in patients with suspected angina or ACS, with coronary spasm being a leading cause. ACh provocation test can be useful in diagnosing and treating coronary spasm, particularly in high-risk patients with nonobstructive CAD.
