Turning German automotive supply chains into sponsors for sustainability

Florian Wissuwa et al.

Summary: Supply chains have become a critical source of competitive advantage, but in the German automotive industry, they lack transparency and are prone to sustainability breaches. Therefore, many firms focus on sustainable supply chain management (SSCM), but little is known about the implementation process. This study analyzed sustainability reports from German automotive triads between 2014 and 2019 and developed an SSCM implementation framework, providing insights for industry experts aiming to achieve sustainability in their supply chains.

Nexuses among Green Supply Chain Management, Green Human Capital, Managerial Environmental Knowledge, and Firm Performance: Evidence from a Developing Country

Naila Nureen et al.

Summary: The increasing pressures from various stakeholders have urged manufacturing firms to adopt environmentally friendly production methods and pursue green innovation in developing countries. However, little research has been conducted on the relationship between green supply chain management (GSCM), green human capital (GHC), green innovation (GIN), managerial environmental knowledge (MEK), and firm performance (FPR). This study fills this research gap by providing empirical evidence that implementing GSCM, GHC, GIN, and MEK can substantially enhance FPR. The findings suggest that GIN mediates the link between GHC, GSCM, and FPR, while MEK directly affects FPR and moderates the relationship between GIN and FPR. The study has both theoretical and managerial implications, and the results can benefit practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders seeking to improve FPR.

Summary: The objective of this research is to examine the mediating role of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) in the relationship between Green Intellectual Capital (GIC) and Sustainable Performance (SP), as well as the moderating role of Green Agriculture (GA) in the GSCM-SP relationship. A theoretical model is proposed and analyzed using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with a sample of 196 Spanish wineries. The results suggest that GSCM partially mediates the GIC-SP relationship, while GA positively but not significantly moderates the GSCM-SP relationship. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationships in a specific context, as well as the variables that may influence the GSCM-SP link.

Nexus between corporate social responsibility and firm performance: a green innovation and environmental sustainability paradigm

Naila Nureen et al.

Summary: Climate change concerns and the immense usage of fossil fuels have posed severe challenges to sustainable development in developing countries. The government has effectively employed green practices to tackle these challenges. This study investigates the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on firm performance in a developing country (China) by analyzing data from 650 respondents in manufacturing firms. The results show that CSR does not directly affect firm performance. However, it is positively related to green transformational leadership and green innovation, which in turn improve firm performance. Furthermore, green innovation and green transformational leadership mediate the relationship between CSR and firm performance. This study provides valuable insights for managers and policymakers in managing CSR, green innovation, and green transformational leadership to enhance firm performance.

Summary: This study investigates the mediating role of green human resource management (GHRM) and environmental consciousness (EC) between organizational green culture (OGC) and green employee behavior (GEB). It also examines whether this relationship mechanism differs between green hotels and non-green hotels. The quantitative research shows that OGC has an impact on GHRM practices and EC, but not on GEB. The qualitative research reveals that GHRM practices are not effectively implemented in hotels, obtaining a green star is seen as a formality, and the green star is used as a marketing tool.
