A recurrent neural network model of C. elegans responses to aversive stimuli

Enrico Lanza et al.

Summary: Despite the lack of knowledge on the excitatory or inhibitory character of synaptic connections in the C. elegans connectome, a recurrent neural network model was proposed to replicate known escape behaviors by iteratively updating synaptic characters until the behaviors were reproduced. By conducting a meta-study on stimulus-response behaviors of C. elegans, the model's accuracy was validated, confirming its predictive power.

Black-box model reduction of the C. Elegans nervous system

Ruxandra Barbulescu et al.

Summary: Modeling neurons and neuronal collections with high accuracy is a central issue in neuroscience, requiring efficient algorithms, increased computational power, and parallelization to keep up with novel recordings and reconstructions reported by experimental neuroscientists. The extraction of low-order equivalents is essential in capturing the essential aspects of high-accuracy models, which often require the use of black-box data-oriented reduction approaches. A detailed model of the nervous system of C. Elegans can be effectively reduced up to the order of 4 with minimal loss in accuracy, enabling the prediction of the original model's behavior beyond the data range used for reduction.
