Availability and use of web-based interventions for patients with head and neck cancer: a scoping review

Rosemary Kelly et al.

Summary: This study conducted a scoping review to examine the nature, scope, and use of web-based interventions for patients with head and neck cancer. The findings indicate that existing websites and interventions are primarily text-based and lack theoretical support and patient narratives. However, it is crucial to develop a web-based intervention that includes patient stories for decision-making, treatment preparedness, and self-management, particularly for cancer survivors.

Morphological, Functional and Texture Analysis Magnetic Resonance Imaging Features in the Assessment of Radiotherapy-Induced Xerostomia in Oropharyngeal Cancer

Leonardo Calamandrei et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate MRI biomarkers for the assessment of RT-induced xerostomia. Patients who underwent radiation therapy for oropharyngeal cancer were divided into three groups according to the severity of their xerostomia. Conventional and functional MRI did not yield statistically significant results, but texture analysis on ADC maps allowed the distinction between different degrees of severity of RT-induced xerostomia in the pre-RT population.

Impact of HPV status on metastatic patterns and survival in non-oropharyngeal head and neck cancer with distant metastasis

Ping Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of HPV status in metastatic non-OP HNC and found that HPV- patients were more likely to have distant metastasis and worse prognosis and treatment response. Chemotherapy was an independent prognostic factor for HPV+ patients, while both chemotherapy and radiotherapy were independent prognostic factors for HPV- patients. Treatment response was associated with the metastatic pattern and showed significant differences based on HPV status.

Techniques, Tricks, and Stratagems of Oral Cavity Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Davide Maraghelli et al.

Summary: The oral cavity is a complex anatomical area that can be affected by various diseases. CT and MRI are essential imaging techniques for detecting oral abnormalities, and advanced MRI techniques can improve the identification of oral lesions. However, the analysis of oral cavity imaging is complicated by the close proximity of different mucosal surfaces and metal artifacts from dental materials. Nevertheless, dynamic maneuvers and specific strategies can accurately identify oral lesions.

Elisabeth Sartoretti et al.

Summary: This study compared the image quality of different sequences in head and neck MRI and found that the spiral gradient-recalled echo sequence had better overall image quality, artifact suppression, and anatomical delineation compared to conventional cartesian gradient-recalled echo and cartesian turbo spin-echo sequences. However, it also showed larger dental material artifact.

Imaging of human papilloma virus associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and its impact on diagnosis, prognostication, and response assessment

Philip Touska et al.

Summary: The clinical behavior and outcomes of patients with oropharyngeal cancer can be classified based on their association with HPV infection. Patients with HPV-associated disease have distinct characteristics and show better responses to treatment. Imaging techniques, such as CT and MRI, play a crucial role in staging and treatment strategies for these patients.

Predicting radiotherapy-induced xerostomia in head and neck cancer patients using day-to-day kinetics of radiomics features

Thomas Berger et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of images acquired during radiotherapy for predicting the development of xerostomia in head-and-neck cancer patients. By analyzing radiomics features from daily mega-voltage CT scans, the study found that these features improved the prediction of moderate-to-severe xerostomia compared to dose/volume parameters. The results suggest that radiomics features could be used to personalize treatment and improve patient outcomes.

Diagnostic and prognostic value of magnetic resonance imaging in the detection of tumor depth of invasion and bone invasion in patients with oral cavity cancer

Antonio Lo Casto et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the accuracy of preoperative contrast-enhanced MRI in assessing radiological depth of invasion and bone invasion in oral cavity cancer patients, as well as the prognostic value of preoperative radiological depth of invasion. The results showed that preoperative MRI is accurate in assessing depth of invasion and bone invasion, and radiological depth of invasion is an independent predictor of disease-specific survival in oral cavity cancer patients.

Radiomics textural features by MR imaging to assess clinical outcomes following liver resection in colorectal liver metastases

Vincenza Granata et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy of radiomics features obtained by T2-weighted sequences in predicting clinical outcomes following liver resection in colorectal liver metastases patients. The results confirmed the capacity of radiomics to identify prognostic features that could affect treatment choice, leading to a more personalized approach in patients with liver metastases.

Summary: While tobacco and alcohol-related head and neck cancer have declined, HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) has increased. HPV-positive OPC has unique cancer biology and clinical progression, leading to different treatment strategies and survival rates. Advanced imaging research plays a crucial role in characterizing and guiding the treatment of HPV-associated OPC, with radiation de-escalation protocols being a promising option for reducing treatment toxicities in these patients.

Multiparametric MRI Evaluation of Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma. A Mono-Institutional Study

Summary: This study aimed to define the pre-treatment radiological characteristics of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) based on HPV status using MRI, and found no significant differences in tumor volume and radiological characteristics based on HPV status, but significant differences in tumor subsite, smoking status, alcohol intake, ADC, and D-t values. The combination of clinical factors with diffusion coefficient D-t of lymph nodes may help accurately discriminate OPSCC by HPV status.

Summary: The study emphasizes the importance of intensity standardization in quantitative analysis of head and neck cancer MRI. A workflow based on healthy tissue ROI analysis was developed to evaluate intensity standardization methods. Results showed significant impact of intensity standardization methods on consistency of MRI images in heterogeneous acquisition parameters, while the impact was minimal in homogeneous acquisition parameters.
