Modulation of surface properties on cobalt phosphide for high-performance ambient ammonia electrosynthesis

Qiangguo Meng et al.

Summary: This study presents a method to transform cobalt phosphide, which favors the hydrogen evolution reaction, into an electrocatalyst favorable for the nitrogen reduction reaction by modulating surface properties. The oxidized CoP particles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes exhibit high NH3 yield and Faradaic efficiency, while inhibiting the hydrogen evolution reaction and facilitating the nitrogen reduction reaction. In-situ Raman spectra and density functional theory calculations confirm the surface modulation effects.

Accelerated N2 reduction kinetics in hybrid interfaces of NbTiO4 and nitrogen-doped carbon nanorod via synergistic electronic coupling effect

Hoje Chun et al.

Summary: This study reports the engineering of an electrocatalyst/support interface to enhance the selectivity of nitrogen cathodes for the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia. By utilizing a strong catalyst-support interaction strategy, the NbTiO4@NCNR hybrid exhibits a 10-fold increase in selectivity compared to pure metal oxide. The enhanced performance is attributed to bridging bonds in the interface that facilitate electron transport and promote the kinetics of nitrogen reduction.
