Accelerated prediction of Cu-based single-atom alloy catalysts for CO2 reduction by machine learning

Dashuai Wang et al.

Summary: Researchers combined first-principles calculations and machine learning techniques to identify key factors influencing the catalytic properties of Cu-based single atom alloys (SAAs) and discovered that low generalized coordination numbers and valence electron numbers are important features for determining catalytic performance. Several SAAs were identified as promising catalysts for CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). This work provides a paradigm for the rational design and fast screening of SAAs for various electrocatalytic reactions.

Machine-learning-assisted discovery of highly efficient high-entropy alloy catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction

Xuhao Wan et al.

Summary: The application of machine learning in exploring the catalytic activity of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is investigated. A well-performed machine learning model is constructed based on the gradient boosting regression algorithm. Through in-depth analysis, it is revealed that the adsorption energy is a mixture of individual contributions from nearby metal atoms, and an efficient strategy is proposed to optimize the surface structure of HEA catalysts.

Group and Period-Based Representations for Improved Machine Learning Prediction of Heterogeneous Alloy Catalysts

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: Machine learning methods using geometrical representations of chemical environments show significant improvements in predicting adsorption energies on bimetallic alloy surfaces, with mean absolute errors around 0.05 eV for hydrogen adsorption and 0.10 eV for other strong binding adsorbates. The GP-based representations are robust in predicting adsorption on surfaces, elements, and alloys not in the initial training set, making them ideal for high-throughput materials discovery using active learning techniques with limited training data.

Promoting nitric oxide electroreduction to ammonia over electron-rich Cu modulated by Ru doping

Jiangwei Shi et al.

Summary: The electrochemical reduction of nitric oxide to produce ammonia using Ru-doped Cu materials shows superior performance compared to pure Cu catalysts, with increased Faradaic efficiency and yield rates. The Ru doping induces changes in the Cu d-band center, facilitating the hydrogenation step and reducing the desorption energy of ammonia for enhanced catalytic activity.
