Stress granule-associated TaMBF1c confers thermotolerance through regulating specific mRNA translation in wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Xuejun Tian et al.

Summary: The TaMBF1c gene plays a crucial role in regulating heat stress response in wheat by affecting the translation of specific genes. It is evolutionarily conserved in various wheat species and is closely associated with the translation of heat shock proteins, providing a potential target for improving heat tolerance in wheat breeding programs.

A catalogue of resistance gene homologs and a chromosome-scale reference sequence support resistance gene mapping in winter wheat

Sandip M. Kale et al.

Summary: This article reports on the sequencing and assembly of resistance gene homologs in a diversity panel of winter wheat genotypes, as well as the construction of a chromosome-scale genome sequence assembly. It illustrates the value of this resource for breeders and geneticists through comparing resistance gene complements and conducting genome-wide association scans.

TaCol-B5 modifies spike architecture and enhances grain yield in wheat

Xiaoyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports the influence of spike architecture on grain yield in wheat and successfully cloned the gene TaCOL-B5 that determines the number of spikelet nodes per spike in common wheat. The overexpression of TaCol-B5 increases the spikelet nodes, tillers, and spikes, thereby enhancing grain yield. The allelic variation in TaCOL-B5 affects protein phosphorylation by TaK4.

Gene duplication drove the loss of awn in sorghum

Leina Zhou et al.

Summary: Loss of the awn in some cereals, including sorghum, is a key transition during cereal domestication or improvement that has facilitated grain harvest and storage. Identification of the awn1 gene responsible for awn loss in sorghum during domestication or improvement was achieved in this study.
