Radical-Bridged Heterometallic Single-Molecule Magnets Incorporating Four Lanthanoceniums

Peng Zhang et al.

Summary: The syntheses and magnetic properties of organometallic heterometallic compounds containing hexaazatrinaphthylene radicals (HAN•3-) and rare earth (RE) ions are reported. The results show that the ligand-based mixed valency in one of the compounds leads to the isolation of another compound via one-electron chemical reduction. The compounds containing Gd and Dy ions exhibit stronger overall ferromagnetic behaviors and enhanced slow magnetic relaxation compared to those without the ligand-based mixed valency.

Spin Transition Resulting from the Generation of a New Polymorph in the Metastable Phase

Svyatoslav Tolstikov et al.

Summary: The study synthesized Cu(hfac)(2) complex with a paramagnetic ligand in two polymorphs, alpha and beta. Despite structural similarity, the two forms exhibit significant differences in magnetic properties. The beta form undergoes a reversible spin transition, while the alpha form transforms irreversibly into the beta form.

A Dicobalt(II) Single-Molecule Magnet via a Well-Designed Dual-Capping Tetrazine Radical Ligand

Binling Yao et al.

Summary: In recent years, significant progress has been made in the development of high-performance mononuclear single molecule magnets (SMMs) with specific coordination geometries. However, the application of this technology in cluster-based SMMs faces synthetic challenges. The newly designed dual-capping tetrazine ligand and the resulting dicobalt(II) complex exhibit excellent SMM behavior, with a strong antiferromagnetic interaction between the Co centers and the tetrazine radical. Calculations suggest that this interaction helps enhance the barrier height for magnetization reversal.

Asymmetric Coordination Toward a Photoinduced Single-Chain Magnet Showing High Coercivity Values

Qiang Liu et al.

Summary: The production of photo-switchable molecular nanomagnets with substantial coercivity is challenging but essential for information storage and processing applications. This study demonstrates a cyanide-bridged chain generated by introducing photo-responsive spin-crossover units, leading to a 3d-based photoinduced single-chain magnet exhibiting pronounced hysteresis. Structural characterization revealed a distorted coordination environment of Fe-II ions upon the introduction of an asymmetric ligand, resulting in the observed magnetic properties.

Radical-Bridged Ln4 Metallocene Complexes with Strong Magnetic Coupling and a Large Coercive Field

Niki Mavragani et al.

Summary: The study successfully induced magnetic coupling between 4f elements by incorporating highly delocalized tetrazinyl radicals, forming stable tetranuclear complexes. Experimental and computational studies revealed the magnetic properties of these complexes, supporting a radical-induced giant-spin model. Strong exchange interactions between Ln(III) ions and tz(.) radicals led to a strong magnet-like behavior in this molecular magnet with a large coercive field of 30 kOe.
