Nanoneedles anchored ultrathin petals of CuCo layered double hydroxide with high areal capacitance and long cycle life for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors

Summary: This study presents a solvothermal strategy for developing high-performance self-supported hybrid electrode materials on Ni foam. The CuCo-layered double hydroxide (CuCo-LDH) with a unique self-supporting architecture exhibits ultrahigh areal capacitance and excellent cycling stability. The proposed hybrid electrode material shows high areal capacitance of 7.02 F·cm(-2) and remarkable cycling life of 96.60% over 10,000 cycles. Furthermore, when combined with an AC anode, this hybrid architecture achieves a high volumetric capacitance, capacitance retention, and volumetric energy density, demonstrating its potential for future wearable and electronic device applications.

High Areal Capacitance of Flexible Supercapacitors Fabricated with Carbon Cloth-Carbon Fiber-TiO2 Electrodes and Different Hydrogel Polymer Electrolytes

Summary: This study focuses on the development of a flexible electrode based on carbon cloth-carbon fiber-TiO2 (CC-CF-TiO2) and its electrochemical performance in various electrolytes. The highest areal capacitance of 270 mF cm(-2) was achieved in 1 M H2SO4 aqueous electrolyte, and a full-cell flexible supercapacitor with hydrogel polymer electrolyte demonstrated excellent energy and power densities.

A comparative study of chemical treatment by MgCl2, ZnSO4, ZnCl2, and KOH on physicochemical properties and acetaminophen adsorption performance of biobased porous materials from tree bark residues

Summary: In this study, a novel biobased carbon material was synthesized using different single-step pyrolysis chemical methods. The use of different chemical activators resulted in materials with different physicochemical characteristics and acetaminophen adsorption performance. The materials exhibited high specific surface areas and abundant active sites, allowing for ultrafast removal of acetaminophen pollutants. Furthermore, the samples showed good regenerability and efficient removal of synthetic effluents.

Microalgae biomass as a sustainable precursor to produce nitrogen-doped biochar for efficient removal of emerging pollutants from aqueous media

Summary: A novel nitrogen-doped carbon material was synthesized using microalgae as a carbon precursor and phosphoric acid as an activation agent. The nitrogen-doped biochar exhibited increased specific surface area and micropore percentage compared to the non-doped biochar. The nitrogen-doped biochar showed the highest efficiency in adsorbing acetaminophen and treating synthetic effluents, with a maximum sorption capacity of 120.7 mg g^-1. Pore-filling was identified as the dominant adsorption mechanism for acetaminophen.

Study on capacitance properties of the sputtered carbon doped titanium nitride electrode material for supercapacitor

Functional carbon materials for high-performance Zn metal anodes

Summary: The realization of carbon peak and carbon neutralization depends on the efficient utilization of renewable energy sources. Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have received extensive attention due to their material abundance, high capacity, safety, and environmental friendliness. However, the irreversible issues of Zn anode significantly hinder the commercialization of high-performance AZIBs. Carbon materials provide solutions for improving the comprehensive performance of Zn anodes. This review presents the fundamentals, issues, and research progress of Zn anodes with functional carbon materials. Various strategies, including using carbon materials as substrates, protective coating layers, and electrolyte additives, are discussed. The remaining challenges and future perspectives of carbon materials in high-performance AZIBs are outlined.

Perovskite enables high performance vanadium redox flow battery

Summary: Perovskites, such as LaBO3 (B = V, Cr, Mn), demonstrate superior electrochemical kinetics in vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) due to their activity towards vanadium redox reactions. The catalysis is attributed to the active B-O bindings and perovskite structure, promoting the adsorption of vanadium ions. Perovskites also provide more active sites for the redox reactions, resulting in a boosted electron exchange and higher energy efficiency in the VRFBs.

Comparison of acidic leaching using a conventional and ultrasound-assisted method for preparation of magnetic-activated biochar
